अगदी सहाच महिन्यांपूर्वी झालेल्या लोकसभा निवडणुकीत सपाटून मार खाल्लेली महायुती, विशेषतः भाजप इतक्या त्वेषाने लढा देऊन विधानसभेला जोरदार मुसंडी मारते हे नवल वाटत असेल, तर हा आमचा ब्लॉग वाचा.

152 जागा लढवून तब्बल 132 जिंकल्या भाजपने, 80 जागा लढवून 57 जिंकल्या शिवसेनेने आणि 52 जागा लढवून 41 जिंकल्या राष्ट्रवादी काँग्रेस ने. महायुतीच्या मिळून जेवढ्या होतात त्यापेक्षा जास्त एकट्या शिवसेनेच्या, तर राष्ट्रवादी शरद पवार गटाच्या चौपट अधिक जागा अजित दादांच्या राष्ट्रवादीच्या आल्या. भाजपने तर युतीच्या घटकपक्षांच्या मिळूनही जेवढ्या होतात त्यापेक्षा 34 अधिक जागा जिंकल्या. आश्चर्याने डोळे दिपवणारा हा निकाल!

मुळात यात काही समजून घेण्यासारख्या गोष्टी आहेत. आपण यात इतर लोकांनी चर्चिलेले मुद्दे घेणार नाहीत, मात्र एक वेगळा दृष्टिकोन ठेवून पाहणार आहोत की कुठलाही पक्ष एखाद्या निवडणुकीत चांगला ठरत असेल तर तो लगेच मजबूत ठरत नाही. महाविकास आघाडी बद्दल काहीसं असच झालं. लोकसभेत काँग्रेसच्या महाराष्ट्रातील सर्वाधिक जागा जिंकण्यामागचे गमक काय? मुळात सर्वाधिक म्हणजे त्यांनी जागा कितिशा जिंकल्या? तर 13. म्हणजे सिंगल लार्जेस्ट पार्टी 16.92 टक्के मतदान घेऊन केवळ 13 जागा जिंकून बनता आलं. सेना उबाठा आणि राष्ट्रवादी शप यांच्या प्रत्येकी 9 आणि 8. एकुणात आघाडीच्या 30 जागा. भाजप मात्र मतदानाची सर्वाधिक टक्केवारी घेऊन सुद्धा नऊ जागांवर जिंकला, तिथे शिवसेना आणि राष्ट्रवादी काँग्रेस चे प्रत्येकी 7 आणि 1 असे युतीला 17 उमेदवार जिंकवता आले. मुद्दा इथेच आहे. मताची टक्केवारी पाहता युतीला तेव्हाही आघाडीच्या तुल्यबळ मते होती…म्हणजे आघाडीला एकूण 42 टक्के तर युतीला 41 टक्के. मग हा फरक कुठून येतो? तर कमी मतांनी हरलेले उमेदवार. उदाहरण घ्या बीड लोकसभा मतदारसंघाचं. साधारण 22 लाख मतदार असणारा या मतदारसंघात विक्रमी 75 टक्के मतदान झालं आणि अतिशय चुरशीच्या लढतीत भाजपच्या पंकजा मुंडे केवळ साडेसहा हजार मतांनी पराभूत झाल्या. त्यांना मिळालेली मतं ही थोडी थोडकी नव्हे तर 6,77,397 इतकी होती. तुलनेने राष्ट्रवादीच्या बजरंग सोनवणेंचा हा निसटता विजय आहे. आता एक लक्षात घ्या, संपूर्ण बीड जिल्ह्यातील ही पावणे सात लाख भाजपाची पारंपरिक मतं सहा महिन्यात आघाडीच्या पारड्यात जातील का? नाही. पण सोनवणेंना पडलेली मतं ही दोन गोष्टींमधून आली हे लक्षात घ्यावं लागेल, एक म्हणजे मुस्लिम समाजाचे भाजप विरोधात झालेले एकशिक्का मतदान आणि त्याचवेळी जरांगे फॅक्टर मुळे मराठ्यांचे मोठ्या प्रमाणावर झालेले भाजप आणि महायुती विरोधी मतदान. महायुतीने विधानसभेत हेच हेरलं. एकीकडे महायुतीची पारंपरिक मतं, मग ती मतदारसंघ निहाय अजित पवारांची असोत, शिवसेनेची असोत किंवा भाजपची, ती मतं अतिशय मेहनतीने आणि दारोदार जाऊन मिळवली. महायुतीच्या मतदारांनी घराबाहेर येऊन मतदान करावे आणि ते महायुतीलाच करावे यासाठी सर्व प्रकारची मेहनत घेतली. याव्यतिरिक्त जी मते जरांगे फॅक्टर असेल किंवा इतर कुठल्याही कारणास्तव महायुतीच्या विरोधात जाऊ शकत होती, तीही आपल्याकडे वळवली ती सरकारी योजनांच्या प्रचारामधून. लाडकी बहिण योजनेने तर तमाम बहिणींनी महायुतीला भरभरून मते दिलीच. इतके सगळे फॅक्टर बाजूने असताना युतीचा इतका मोठा विजय नवल वाटत नाही.

परंतु वर उल्लेख केला त्याप्रमाणे कुठलाही पक्ष एखाद्या निवडणुकीत लगेच मोठा किंवा लहान होत नाही. काश्मीर मध्ये भाजपने 370 कलम हटवून, विकासकामांचा सपाटा लावून सुद्धा काश्मीर खोऱ्यात आजही नॅशनल कॉन्फरन्स सारखे पक्ष निवडून येतातच की. पंजाब मध्ये भाजपची डाळ शिजते का? कर्नाटकात भाजपने मार खाल्लाच ना? बाकी सोडा, लोकसभेत अयोध्येच सीट सुद्धा गेलच की. एखादा पक्ष निवडणुकीत काय धोरणं घेऊन येतोय, शेवटच्या बूथ पर्यंत किती लोकांना कार्यान्वित करतोय, कटू सत्य असलं तरी पैसे किंवा तत्सम गोष्टींचं वाटप करतोय का, हवा आपल्या बाजूने वळवू शकतोय का, लोकांच्या मनावर सकारात्मक प्रतिबिंब सोडतोय का, धर्म आणि जातीची गणितं (अजून एक कटु सत्य) जुळवण्यात यशस्वी होतोय का, या सर्व गोष्टी महत्त्वाच्या ठरतात. विधानसभा निवडणूक म्हणजे लोकशाहीच्या उतरंडीमधील मधली घागर, इथे तर हे सर्व मुद्दे अतिशय ठळकपणे लागू होतात. त्यामुळे लोकसभेत सामूहिक रित्या दोन तृतीयांश जागा मिळवणाऱ्या आघाडीला हे लक्षात यायला पाहिजे हवं होतं की वैयक्तिक यांच्या प्रत्येक पक्षाची हालत ही युतीच्या पक्षांपेक्षा वेगळी नाही. एक राष्ट्रवादी काँग्रेस सोडता उरलेले पाचही मोठे पक्ष लोकसभेत तुल्यबळच होते. शिवाय मतदान जात-धर्मावरून (यांच्याच कृपेने) विभागल्या मुळे एखाद्या समाजाचा मतदानाचा टक्का दुसऱ्या समाजा पेक्षा जास्त झाल्याने जर तुम्हाला फायदा होत असेल, तर याच सारखा असा फायदा युतीला होऊ शकत नाही काय? इथे जात धर्मावर, पैश्यावर किंवा दारूवर मतं फोडण्याच किंवा संकलित करण्याचं समर्थन मुळीच नाही, पण तुमच्या विजयाची वास्तविकता हीच असेल तर युतीचा मतदार देखील आपापल्या विचारानुसार एक होऊन युतीला मतदान करण्यासाठी बाहेर येणार आणि मग जे घडणार, तेच तर या निकालात दिसतंय. मग आघाडीच्या पक्षांनी यात छाती बडवण्याच काय कारण? नेहमी प्रमाणे ईव्हीएम ला दोष देण्याचं काय कारण? जनता तुमच्याकडून योग्य मुद्द्यांवर विरोधाची अपेक्षा करते. जनता तुमच्याकडून चांगल्या, नवीन, तरुण नेत्यांची अपेक्षा करते. जर तुमच्या मते युती धर्माचं राजकारण करत असेल तर तुम्ही त्याच्या विरोधात बोलण्याच्या ऐवजी स्वतः जातीचं राजकारण कराल, कुणा एका समाजाची मतं एकगठ्ठा मिळवण्यासाठी दुसऱ्या समाजाला नावं ठेवत असाल आणि एकंदरच विकासाचा कुठलाही दृष्टिकोन, तुमच्यात आणि युतीतल्या धोरणांमधला फरक सांगत नसाल, तर विरोधी पक्ष म्हणून किंवा पक्षांचं संघटन म्हणून तुम्ही केव्हाच हरलेले आहात. समाजाची मोट बांधण्याची जबाबदारी तुमच्यावर असताना आज एका समाजाचं लांगूलचालन करून मतं मागत असाल, तर उरलेला समाज स्वतःहून एका पक्षाची एकाधिकारशाही स्वीकारेल. तेव्हा आघाडीच्या सर्व पक्षांना एकच विनंती, आत्मपरीक्षण करा. जनतेत मिसळा. विकासाच्या मुद्द्याला लावून धरा. लोकांसाठी बोला. लोक आपोआप समर्थन देतील. हे सगळं न करता सत्ता आली जरी तरी ती टिकणार नाही, जशी ती मागच्या वेळी सुद्धा टिकली नव्हतीच.

आता या सगळ्यामध्ये पक्षांची गल्लत कुठे होते? आणि केवळ राजकीय पक्षांचीच चूक आहे असं तरी कुठे म्हणता येईल? लोकांची चूक नाही का? सर्वात योग्य मुद्दे आणि सर्वात स्पष्ट भूमिका घेऊन कुठल्याही गटातटात न पडता स्वतंत्रपणे निवडणूक लढविणाऱ्या मनसेचा असलेला सुद्धा एकमेव उमेदवार पडला. जनतेला योग्य मुद्द्यांची जाण नाही का? जातीय आणि धार्मिक, दोन्ही प्रकारच्या कित्येक पटलांची गुंतागुंत असलेल्या ध्रुवीकरणामध्ये जनता असताना मुळातच फारशा अपेक्षा नाहीतच, वरतून आपल्याला हेही गृहीत धरावे लागेल की सत्ताधारी पक्ष किंवा विरोधी पक्ष काही निव्वळ बिनकामाचे नाहीत. निवडून येण्यासाठी असणाऱ्या महत्त्वाच्या शक्ती तुमच्याकडे असायलाच हव्यात, जसं की बँका, साखर कारखाने, दूध संघ, जिल्हा परिषदा, शिक्षण संस्था बाजार समित्या या सर्वांवर पकड,(साखर कारखाने हा मुद्दा सोडला तर भाजप सुद्धा या न त्या मार्गे या सर्व शक्ती बाळगून आहे). या शक्तींनी तुम्ही एक इकोसिस्टिम बनवता की ज्यात लोकांशी आर्थिक व सामाजिक नाती तयार होतात. तुमच्या बाष्कळ गप्पा ऐकून किमान ग्रामीण मतदार तरी मत देणार नाही.  लोकांची वैयक्तिक कामे, अडचणी सोडवणारे (भले मग त्यातून आपला फायदा काढून घेईनात का), गुत्तेदारांना contracts मिळवून देणे, शेतीविषयक अडचणी सोडवणे हे सर्व निवडून येण्यास कारणीभूत असतं. मात्र अनेक ठिकाणी उमेदवाराची जात आणि धर्म बघून सुद्धा मतदान होतंच. फतवे निघतात की अमुक एका पक्षाला मत देऊ नका, सोशल मीडियावर प्रचार – अपप्रचार पासून ते दंगली पर्यंत गोष्टी जातात. भारतीय लोकशाही अशीच बहुरंगी आहे. याची ही काळी बाजू. 

परंतु निवडणुकीत बूथ लेव्हल पर्यंत काम करणारे कार्यकर्तेच पक्षाला विजयाकडे घेऊन जातात. केवळ पाच टक्के मतदान वाढलं तर महायुतीच्या पारड्यात केवढं यश आलं, पण हे मतदान वाढलं कसं याचा विचार केलाय? संघाचे स्वयंसेवक, भाजपचे पदाधिकारी, कार्यकर्ते, शिवसैनिक, राष्ट्रवादीचे कार्यकर्ते सर्वच जण महायुतीच्या प्रत्येक उमेदवारासाठी घराघरातून एक एक मत कसं येईल याची पूर्ण दखल घेत होते. बाहेरगावी असणाऱ्यांना प्रवासाची सोय करून देणे, मतदार यादीत नाव शोधून देणे वगैरे पासून ते लोकांनी मतदान केलंय याची निश्चिती करून घेणे, इथवर मेहनत केली महायुतीच्या कार्यकर्त्यांनी. हीच मेहनत कमीअधिक प्रमाणात लोकसभेला आघाडीने घेतली आणि तीस जागा आणल्या. ही मेहनत घेण्याची क्षमता, लोकांमध्ये मत बनवण्याची क्षमता, दूरदृष्टी असणारे तडफदार नेते या सर्व गोष्टींमध्ये महायुती खूप सरस आहे. त्यामुळे ही मेहनत त्यांना जास्त फळाला आली, तर आघाडीच्या अगोदरच कमतर शक्तिमध्ये त्यांचा लोकसभा विजयाचा अहंकार, एकगठ्ठा मुस्लिम मतांच्या जोरावर हिंदू मतांना गृहीत धरणे, हिंदू देवीदेवतांची विटंबना करणाऱ्या लोकांच्या कार्यक्रमाला हजेरी लावणे, वक्फ बिल ला विरोध करणे, जातीय तेढ पसरविणे या गोष्टींनी तेल ओतले व आघाडी विरोधात एक मोठा मतदार वर्ग एकवटला. मुळात आघाडी विरोधात नव्हतच हे मतदान. हिंदुत्वाची लाट आली, लोकांना तो मुद्दा योग्य वाटला आणि लोकांनी जो हिंदुत्वाची बाजू घेतो त्याला मत दिले. मग हेच शंभर टक्के असच झालं का? तर नाही. महिलांनी लाडकी बहिण योजनेसाठी मत दिलं, अनेक मतदारसंघात नेहमीचा उमेदवार असतो म्हणुन लोकांनी त्यालाच मत दिलं, अनेक ठिकाणी नेहमीचा उमेदवार पाडण्या साठी मत दिलं. लोकांनी अनेक कारणासाठी मतं दिली, आणि सत्य हेच की सर्वच कारणं महायुतीला समर्थनाची ठरली.

अनेक ठिकाणी मतमोजणी मध्ये संशय व्यक्त केला जातोय. आघाडीची तर थेट ईव्हीएम विरोधीच भूमिका आहे. हे शक्यच नाही, असं नाही. होऊ शकतं. पण मग लोकसभेला पण झालं नाही का असं?

एकूणच काय, तर सर्वच प्रकारच्या मतदारांमध्ये महायुतीला मतदान करण्याची इच्छा होती. काही विशिष्ट समाजांनी नसेल केलं, मात्र बहुतेक लोकांनी आपापली कारणं शोधून महायुतीला मतदान केलं. मग यात केवळ हिंदुत्वामुळे झालं असही नाही, किंवा “बटेंगे तो कटेंगे” हा नारा निर्णायक ठरला असंही नाही, केवळ मुख्यमंत्री शिंदेंची लोकप्रियता होती म्हणून नाही, केवळ लाडकी बहीण योजना होती म्हणून नाही, केवळ ओबीसी एकवटले म्हणून नाही, केवळ जरांगे फॅक्टर हरला म्हणूनही नाही किंवा केवळ देवा भाऊंची राजकीय बुद्धिमत्ता होती म्हणूनही नाही. सर्वच्या सर्व कारणं एकत्रितपणे लागू आहेत. जनतेने स्वतःच्या इच्छेने महायुतीला निवडून दिले हेच सत्य आहे. आघाडीने सर्वप्रथम तर या भ्रमातून बाहेर यावं की भाजपविरोधी लाट आहे. भाजपचा मतदार हा शांत असतो. तो भाजपविरोधात बोलतो पण मत भाजपलाच देतो कारण त्याला इतर कुठलाही पर्याय भाजपच्या किंवा NDA च्या बरोबरीचा वाटत नाही. आघाडीने आता तात्काळ आपले मुद्दे ठरवून एक विश्वासू नेतृत्व उभं करावं आणि खरच जनतेची एवढी काळजी असेल, तर जातीय जनगणना, जातीय आरक्षणं, अल्पसंख्याकांचे लांगूलचालन या मुद्द्यांना फाट्यावर मारून चांगले मुद्दे घेऊन यावेत जे जनतेच्या हिताचे असतील.

असो….महायुतीला शुभेच्छा. आतातरी एवढ्या विजयानंतर मराठवाड्यात, विदर्भात व इतरत्र सुद्धा विकासाची गंगा दुथडी भरून वाहताना दिसावी ही अपेक्षा.

Recently, a young Chartered Accountant working with a well-known MNC passed away due to work pressure. Almost two months after, her mother wrote an ‘open letter’ to the chairman of the MNC, explaining the hardships her daughter faced before passing away, and that no one from the organization didn’t even attend her funeral.  Long story short, the young CA’s work life was as atrocious as it would get, because atrocious is the least applicable word for the corporate cruelty that took her life. In this regard, let’s analyse what happened with her, the toxic side of corporate work culture in India and possible solutions (if only), with my own horrific experience from one of my previous employers.

The Young CA’s Tragedy

She was 26, passed her CA Final November 2023 attempt, which means the results were declared earlier this year and she got into this job at the particular MNC a few months before passing away. Now we have two accounts of this story, one from her colleagues and the other, as written by her mother in the viral ‘open letter’. Her mother explains that she would regularly work for 12-16 hours a day, skipping meals and disturbing the sleep schedule. She would sometimes come home so tired that she used to collapse in bed and sleep, without even changing her office attire or having a sip of water. As she was living away from her hometown, her parents could only see the living hell her life had become from afar. Tragedy is a small word because she passed away days after her convocation. With hardwork and perseverance, she earned the CA degree and made her parents proud, only to let the employer take a toll on her life? Her ECG reports came normal when, on the convocation day itself, she had chest pain after which they consulted the doctor. The doctor said she was sleep deprived, and very much stressed, because of which she was having chest pain. No one from the organization attended her funeral, making it even worse. Her colleagues revealed that her manager and senior manager would often reschedule meetings at after office hours. It is also mentioned that the manager used to watch cricket during work hours and thus would reschedule the meetings after the office. Some ex-employees from the organization faced similar experience, including having calls at 3 AM and working from hospitals where they are literally admitted and were under treatment. It need not be proven that work pressure took her life because pretty much everybody knows this. The audacity of the MNC’s chairman to state otherwise is laughable. I wish the person gets the test of the culture of his organization, he’d be humbled at the very least.

Corporate Culture in India

Without a second thought, India’s corporate culture is as toxic as it can get, especially when it comes to consultancy firms, like the one in which the deceased worked. We have a culture where personal life is not respected. A few oversmart people work beyond working hours to make it a norm, calling those leaving on time “half day”. The managers are pressurized by the partners/directors to get the work done in as much lesser resource as they can. They do so to be in the good books of the higher authorities. So, at the cost of subordinates’ personal lives, their time beyond working hours, and even at times, at the cost of their health and well-being, these managers churn out the output. This is the core issue upon which all issues are based. Particularly speaking, it is because of more output in lesser manpower, the employees are made to work, by hook or crook, beyond working hours. Regardless of what they say, these companies reward peanuts in exchange of the slog of their employees.

Now the issues are with the way employees are treated in all these things. They are never heard of the hardships they face. They’re not allowed leaves even out of their leave balance. They’re asked to work from home after office, work from hospital, vacation and literally everywhere they go. They’re put down and harassed for calling out any hardship. In order to be in good books and not to affect the personal career growth, most employees remain silent on this. I am not even mentioning the politics amongst employees because it’s still least of the concerns when work pressure is taking lives.

Bullying, harassment (including sexual harassment), targeted personal attacks are also amongst the concerns. Asking, unduly influencing or forcing female subordinates for sexual favours, including personal favours is the area where the POSH looks after. The POSH doesn’t really work well with the real incidences where almost everyone has a stake involved. Apart from that, misuse of POSH by female superiors is also a concern.

Leaving a few respectable exceptions, managers do not resolve the conflicts amongst employees, nor do they address their issues. Instead, they use such things to their advantage.

The Serious Impacts of Toxic Work Culture

People join such organization in their 20s. They get married. Most of them don’t get time with their partners, the crucial first few years of marriage are wasted. In their personal space, people must get close with their life partner and get on happy terms so that their professional space is sorted out. Today, most people struggle with both their spaces because they’re mixed up. I’ll put it in even straight manner. When it’s the time of the person to see his/her spouse, to caress, cuddle, kiss and being with each other forgetting everything, a ‘Teams’ call rings up out of nowhere. These things pile up to cause a distance in them, leading to divorces, cheatings and complete destruction of personal lives. This is regardless of gender as we have female workforce facing similar, or even worse situations. Apart from spoiled relations with spouses, we see people are not getting time with their parents and siblings as well. Lack of social life and personal life amplifies depression.

The health hazards are as much serious. Sitting for long hours, irregular diet and stress eating, sleeping less than required is something that took her life and is taking toll on a million other lives as well. They may not suddenly die but their organs are dying. Chronic back pain, spoiled gut health and sleep deprival ultimately lead to high blood pressure, diabetes and heart diseases. Combined with this comes the culture of drinking and smoking which is often spread out of peer pressure.

Amongst the lesser talked impacts is the debauchery that is going around in the corporate world. People spend more time in office than at homes and thus, situations ultimately lead co-workers to get personal with each other, often cheating on their spouses and more so, for deriving the benefits. Family is the first unit of society, they say. Such debauchery is killing the family unit, causing a larger threat to the well being of society.

Possible Solutions

Indian organizations have zero national interest when it comes to negotiating with the foreign clients. We have the world’s largest and for sure the most dedicated workforce. No shame in accepting that we’re cheaper because that’s why they choose us in the first place. But can’t Indian companies simply negotiate that the workforce will not work on Indian public holidays? Can’t they say, in a syndicate, that pay us more so that we can pay our employees more? Can’t they simply reject the clients who ask for unnecessary demands? We are here, working in their timezones, spoiling our health out of which the Indian companies are reaping benefits, can’t our beloved employers stand for their own employees for basic human rights? If they don’t, why is the Government simply not paying heed to these concerns?

While it should not ideally, strictly be 9-5 always. Not expected because industry and markets are volatile. There can be a sudden surge in work pressure at times and at times there can be lesser work than regular and it is accepted. That’s how pretty much everything goes. It is perfectly fine if employees work after office hours when they work with passion. It is acceptable only to a limit. The corporate culture is going against the basic human rights of sleeping, eating regularly, giving quality time to family and themselves and most importantly, living healthy. If a young woman’s tragic death can’t wake our systems up, I don’t know what will. India is witnessing a gradual shift in power where most probably the current government may not return in the next elections. If they want to retain the power, I urge them to solve this issue foremost and we’ll vote in high numbers for them. The offer is open for the opposition as well. Promise us the well-being of corporate employees, with a dedicated action plan and we’ll take you to power in absolute majority.

My Personal Experience

Nowhere mentioned on any of my profiles, one of my ex-employments was similar to what the deceased faced. I used to be a trainee at this consultancy firm and have suffered horrendous atrocities. From not getting paid for two-three months in a row to getting bullied and secluded at workplace, from getting the unnecessary blame to getting trolled at workplace even by the seniormost authorities, I witnessed everything. While my physical health was not affected, it was the mental health and my career graph that faced the impacts of these atrocities. Worst part was, they did not even give me an experience certificate even after expressly stating it during the interview. Not everything was bad, the exposure I had there was top-class. Not everyone was bad as well, I wish I could name the good people. But yes, I’d often feel bad for living when I was working there. I left the organization in merely 9 months. Worst was yet to unfold.

The manager, I don’t know where I had disappointed him, but kept an eye on all my social media handles after I left the organization. I used to be a loud mouth activist on Twitter and if he really cared about my well-being, he’d have personally told me not to get politically expressive on Twitter because that was his explanation when I called him out for the phishing and identity theft he did on Twitter. He kept an eye on me so much that he knew I had two more handles for business purpose and he trolled me every once in a while on each of the accounts. The only thing I did, was that I criticised the organization and the work culture without naming the organization or the people from that organization. After this chapter, I deleted all my Twitter handles just to see myself relieved from this monster of a person. He caused more damage after I left the organization, revealing that he was the mastermind behind every single thing I faced there, contrary to what I used to think about him. I wish him very good luck and a positive soul, because eventually his insecurities will take him to a negative state if not already, and I don’t really wish bad for that person. He has a family too and I know deep down he’s doing everything for the love of his family. Mr. Manager, if you’re reading this, which I know you are, please get well soon. No hard feelings, even after you made me, a strict anti-alcohol person, lift beer bottles at the off-site tour, because I still remember the good deeds you did for me as well.

Currently, I’m happy to be in an organization when I’m heard, valued and respected. I wish every organization becomes similar.

Introduction

The historic, yet a very disheartening runaway of Shaikh Haseena from Bangladesh marked another milestone in the history of Indian Subcontinent. We need to delve into history, as far as 2000 years or even more. We need to understand sociology. We need to understand geo-politics before we comment anything on this matter. But it does give a feeling after a thorough analysis, that the entire Indian subcontinent is sitting on a time bomb. Actually, two time bombs. One is environmental and another is Socio-Political, driven by demographic changes. For the sake of this larger aspect, we are not even looking at the so called “student protests” that resulted into this chaos. Those were very much engineered.

Historic Aspect

The recorded history of India from an Indian perspective tells us that this subcontinent has the oldest living civilization even today. Practices to reach God and seek knowledge evolved in India much prior to anywhere in the world. It can safely be said that India is at least 5,000 years old if not more than 10,000. Now why is this aspect important? First is to see how humanity evolved in India and enriched itself. Religions such as Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, Sikkhism directly originated here. Zoroastrianism as well, was greatly inspired by Sanatan Dharma. These are all the ways of living a life, to seek its meaning. Nowhere in any of these religions was a provision that people of another faith are subordinates or they don’t deserve to live. Fast forward to different eras where the economical arrangement of Varna Vyavastha became a birthright and culminated into Jati Vyavastha causing social divide. If we were to mark Kingdoms throughout the history, the Mauryans, especially Chandraguta and his grandson Ashoka did a great job in social harmony of India. In both of their eras, present day Bangladesh, Pakistan, Afghanistan and almost entire India was a one nation. Like an ECG report, the frequency of social divide in India kept going upwards and downwards throughout the history. Kingdoms fought amongst themselves. People died of war. But it never occurred that people were killing each other only because they did not worship the God of their choice.

With great despair, and in the most neutral tone, it has to be said that Abrahamic religions, especially some sects of Christianity and Islam have this tendency to bully over people of other faiths. When both of them hit the Indian subcontinent, the results are before us. Iran, which was once Persia, full of Atesh Gahas of Zoroastrians, became Islamic. Afghanistan which was once known as Upganasthan or Gandhar, and happened to be a Buddhist nation, is now a fundamentalist Islamic nation. Karachi used to have the biggest Mahashivratri festival in India and was full of Sindhi people, Lahore was the most sacred city of Sikhs and more than half of 51 Shaktipeeths of Hindu Goddesses hailed in the land we call “Islamic Republic of Pakistan” today. With Pakistan went our very own East Bengal which later separated itself from Pakistan to form Bangladesh. A large section of Hindus were living there. They were persecuted in all these years but Bangladesh was at least prone to protect Hinduism in their nation. With this recent episode of military overthrow of power, we are witnessing persecution of Hindus in Bangladesh for one more time. As a fellow Hindu, isn’t it my right even to be afraid of these circumstances, or am I to be labelled an Islamophobe to call this out? Let’s go deeper into understanding the human nature now, because it has very much to do with what is happening and will happen if steps are not taken to prevent it.

Co-Existence and Human Psychology

It is in human nature to kill each other. We call ourselves civilised because we avoid violence. That’s the base upon which societies are built. Religion is nothing but a society. The implied agreements of co-existence are followed in a society. Another thing human has in its nature is compassion and love. So these are bipolar qualities. They need a balance. Once any of them takes a heavier place, human tends to initiate violent actions. For example, too much love for their own society may bring up hatred or intolerance for another society. Through the route of corruption, injustice, conflicts, invasions, falsehood etc., humans gradually turn to a mass violence. Can I give you a perfect example? If you believe in Mahabharat, remember what happened? Too much love for his own sons, Dhritarashtra did not give up his throne to Pandavas when they returned from the jungles after the Laksha Griha chapter. That caused a divide in Kingdom. Too much hatred for Pandavas made Duryodhan plot a conspiracy in which Pandavas lost their part of Kingdom. Even after returning from the exile, Duryodhan refused to give them back their Kingdom. What happened next? A giant war that wiped out 60% of global population in 5561 BC. This is how humans kill each other.

The Europeans wiped out every culture they invaded. Hitler tried to wipe out Jews from earth. The Communists, so called believers of equality, tried to kill everyone who disagrees with them. Even the Japanese inculcated so much hatred for the Chinese and committed atrocities against them. Look at every page of history and you’ll find humans killing each other for varied reasons, but primarily hatred.

So the bottom line is, it is not anything different with fundamentalist Islam. So is Hinduism any different? Only in the aspect that it doesn’t believe in killing people based on their faiths, otherwise  I can cite examples where two Hindu kings fighting pointless wars for centuries just because one of them wanted to overpower another. Primary example is the destruction of Rashtrakutas. All of their enemies united against them and they wiped their capital city, Manyakheta, out from the map of India. So all-in-all, we have this conclusion that whatever is happening even now, is nothing but human tendency to not coexist with each other.

The Geo-Political Aspect

A thriving economy with so much water, vegetation and dense, young population… Bangladesh was developing rapidly. The textile industry was top-notch in Bangladesh. The location of Bangladesh has its own significance and its friendly relations with India benefitted both the nations in economic development. Guess who’s jealous of such positivity? The dear “Superpower” which wants to spread “Democracy” in world with military invasions and the wannabe superpower “Dragon” which cannot withstand India doing anything good. Establishing their areas of influence, both nations tried their best to  influence Bangladesh’s policies in their interests. The Haseena Government did not bow to any of them and kept an independent policy. So the obvious thing that happened with Libya, Iraq, Afghanistan and Venezuela…happened in Bangladesh as well. In order not to be noticed, these nations engineered “protests” to overthrow the elected government and they were successful. So who won the game here? Doesn’t matter. Bangladesh lost.

As far as India is concerned, it can be anticipated that India will use the situation to its advantage at least for now. Even in the 2021 Taliban Chapter of Afghanistan, it was anticipated that Taliban will befriend Pakistan and we’ll lose Afghanistan as a friend but happened otherwise. Afghanistan and Pakistan are more in conflict than before and India-Afghanistan friendship is intact. Same thing can be expected in Bangladesh but either the Superpower or the Wannabe Superpower, will take Bangladesh to their side in their larger game to exploit the Asian wealth. It is very much important that we are vigilant and prepare ourselves for a 3.5 front war in any scenario, as opined by Ex-IAS Avinash Dharmadhikari. For the time being, relations with Bangladesh should be kept friendly but with a distance.

The Socio-Political and Environmental Time Bombs

We’ll analyse the Socio-Political time bomb as it is clearly evident. East and West Pakistan could be formed because the areas were Muslim majority. South Pakistan could not be formed because the area wasn’t a Muslim majority and the people of Hyderabad province fought for the victory. No matter the circumstances, the majority population does not want the minorities with them. They kill them, do their ethnic cleansing, rape their women and loot their houses and lands. This sad truth isn’t just limited to Pakistan and Bangladesh, but extends to India as well. West Bengal and Kerala are living examples whereas Kashmir has been a recent bloodbath in this regard. It is worrisome. Changes in demography are very much prone to such conflicts.

Whatever the differences are, can be solved in peace but what if they just don’t want to solve the issues, rather using them to their victimhood until they overthrow us? Mistakes have been from both sides but it is only their intention to co-exist which will decide the fate of India. We very much want to, I’m sure many of them would also want peace and coexistence. It is for them to assure us that nothing of any sort which happened in Bangladesh and Pakistan, will happen in India, instead of playing victim everytime. But the reality seems quite different. An Act giving citizenship to persecuted minorities of Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan offends them so much that they unite against it nationwide. Naming a city after a good King instead of a tyrant offends them just because the tyrant belonged to their faith. It is for them to settle these differences and set the priorities right before coming to dialogue. For us, they’re brothers. But we remember that the Mahabharat war was fought against brothers. If they try becoming Pandavas, we’ll be as much Pandavas to them. If they’re happy being Kouravas, we have Lord Krishna on our side. As of now, the population divide is 75-20-5 in terms of percentage. If the same is changed to 35-60-5, a worldwide history of conflicts tells us that a Civil War is evident. This nation is great and if both sides believe in the greatness, nothing of this sort will happen, but the time bomb is on. Time will only tell if this bomb defuses, or blasts.

Another time bomb which we have, and is quite intertwined with the trans-national socio-political issues of entire Indian subcontinent, is the environmental issue. Almost all of the North India, Pakistan and Bangladesh are fed on the waters of rivers originated from the Himalayas. The Himalayas are melting. The rivers are prone to dry up. This process may take a century or two to happen but it involves massive floods, water shortage, food grain shortage and spread of diseases with time. Indian subcontinent is the most populous region on earth with so many conflicts. Such environmental issues will only worsen the situation. Pakistan is the first nation to get hit by droughts. Where will the Pakistanis go if the droughts continue and there’s no water left? As said by legends, wars will be fought over water and it seems evident.

Conclusion

The remarkable event of Bangladesh is underlining the foreseeable future of conflicts. It is not limited to Bangladesh. It affects India and the world. At the same time, the dirty power play of the so called Super Powers is killing the prosperity of nations and causing ruckus amongst people. To preserve the democracy, a vigilant eye is required, not just for the Government, but for everyone. It is our problem and we are meant to solve it together. Turning a blind eye to the risks and conspiracies result in situations like Bangladesh. We won’t let that happen in India, ever!

“Come on Dnyanesh, you just can’t write a romantic poem out of the blue. Just tell me who’s that girl? Tell us about her” asked Gauri

“Brown eyes, short height and a cute smile with some Gen-Z traits like listening to remake of old songs, that’s all I can spare, don’t ask for more”, I replied.

“Wait what? She listens to that musician? Dude just drop her, how can you like someone with such a pathetic music taste?” Said Gauri

“नाही पण seriously, कसलं नशीब ए तिचं. आमच्यासाठी नाही बाबा कुणी कधी अशा कविता वगैरे लिहिल्या! सांग ना काय नाव आहे तिचं? Or shall we guess?” Vedika added.

At the four wheeler parking of DESPU’s building in the BMCC campus, 3 confused souls were thinking about what exactly to do in the cultural fest until the topic changed to that specific girl who wasn’t there at the moment. Gauri and Vedika thus started a great conversation that was so hilarious it made it to the top of this blog.

Mandar came around with Shiva and Natasha. After a while, Pournima and Aishwarya also joined. A group of girls led by Priya were practicing their dance. I went to add some points only to find myself, Pournima and Mandar eventually participating in the group dance. That was a moment’s business though, as the entire dance was cancelled, but we did have some fun that day.

Gauri and Vedika had already left before Priya had arrived for their dance practice. I went to them for their bluetooth speaker, practiced a few songs and then we left.

The next day, there was an induction programme at college. I led the PGDBF batch as a CR, but I don’t really think I did anything. Something was playing in the back of my mind. New beginnings were seeded in 2 pots, both being equally important. On Saturday, I practiced along with Gauri, Vedika and Mansi. Some rascal had locked us for a while in classroom number 405. The girls were a little anxious but I was having fun in that moment.

The organizing team said there was going to be a stage practice of performances on Sunday. I came on Sunday only to find the stage was yet to be set. I returned home. The 3 girls Gauri, Vedika and Mansi practiced their dance all day long in the same classroom. I went there in the evening and the stage was still not complete. I had a practice session with the 3 girls again and we all left together.

It all started with the announcement of cultural fest. The B. Tech guys had taken over the entire responsibility of the fest since the beginning with 3 of our PGDBF girls, Sonali, Vaishnavi and Rutuja being in the organizing team as well. In the very beginning i.e. two weeks prior to the event, I had come up with a plan of dance-cum-act which did not work out. I focused on my singing performance instead. The events described above were from 6 days ago to the fest, to a day before the fest i.e. 12^th to 17^th March 2024. Many things changed in between.

The fest started on 18^th March in the afternoon. On the first day, the dress code was traditional. I performed a poem at the open mic session, which got a decent response from the audience. The 2^nd day was really a fun when the dress code was Bollywood. Me, Shiva and Mandar became random South Indian characters wearing lungis. Shiva did look like an authentic one. Rabina had become Geet from Jab We Met and she was just the right fit in her costume. 3 more girls who did a spectacular job in choosing a costume and looking like a character were Mansi, who became Meenamma from Chennai Express, Aishwarya who became the retro Sharmila Tagore character and Pournima who had become Sheila. PGDBF batch literally won the Bollywood Cosplay but nobody praised us, nevermind.

On the same day, there were fun games where I guessed the movie characters right and got a chance to feed Om and Rabina pieces of apple dipped in salt. Indeed a great memory when Rabina said “Maine kya bigada hai tumhara”. There was another Bollywood quiz won by our team including Me, Pournima, Aishwarya and Mandar.

Third and final day was the day of performances. For some reason those B. Tech guys put my performance first. I chose a good costume set. More than the song, I liked the way I controlled the crowd in the beginning and the way I urged them to enjoy every performance including mine. I did not sing as well as I thought I would, but the response was decent so it’s okay. These 4 girls, Mansi, Vedika, Gauri and Vaishnavi set the stage on fire with their performance. Aishwarya stirred everyone’s soul with her “Mere Dholana” while Rabina brought laughter riots in her act. Apart from ours, these two guys, Yugandhar Kulkarni and Vaishnavi Sonawane who performed Bansuri play with classical dance were outstanding. The solo dance followed by Rabina’s act was the best performance ever. One thing that was the most celebrated, was Shiva’s DSLR camera!

The performances were followed by DJ Night. Everyone danced like crazy. We all had dinner together and clicked photos.

I missed college life because of my curriculum back in my graduation days. I’m really thankful that I have these moments to cherish. Moments like one described in the beginning, being locked in the practice session, winning the Bollywood quiz and many more. These will become random memories to bring a smile 5 years down the line.

देशात इन्फ्रास्ट्रक्चरचा विकास तेजीने सुरू आहे. रस्ते, रेल्वे, विमानतळ, मेट्रो सगळं अगदी दणक्यात वाढतंय. विचार केला नव्हता, मात्र रेल्वेने मनावर घेतलं विद्युतीकरणाला आणि गेल्या तीन चार वर्षांतच साधारण साठ टक्के असणारं रेल्वेमार्गाचं विद्युतीकरण आता शंभर टक्क्यांच्या जवळपास पोचलंय. देशातील चौथा व महाराष्ट्रातील पहिला रेल्वेच्या डब्यांचा कारखाना जवळजवळ बनून तयार आहे लातुरात. म्हणजे उद्या देशाच्या कानाकोपऱ्यात धावणाऱ्या रेल्वेच्या डब्यावर “Coach built by Marathwada Rail Coach Factory, Latur” असं दिसेलही. याच्या फेज 2 मध्ये तर मेट्रो डब्यांचा कारखाना देखील होऊ घातलाय. एकंदरच लातूर आता रेल्वेच्या नकाशावरचं अत्यन्त महत्वाचं ठाणं आहे यात दुमत नाही.

मात्र असं असतानाही काही मूलभूत सुविधांमध्ये अजूनही का बरं अडकून पडलीये लातूरची रेल्वे? का म्हणून लातूर रोड हे जंक्शन असूनही एक दुर्लक्षित स्थानक आहे? का म्हणून लातूर स्टेशन ची इमारत आजही गावखेड्याच्या छोट्या स्टेशन एवढीच आहे? का बरं दिवसाउजेडी एकही महत्वाची ट्रेन लातूरला येत नाही? घेऊया आढावा सर्व समस्यांचा.

साधारण पंधरा वर्षांपूर्वी स्व. विलासराव देशमुख यांच्या प्रयत्नाने सुरू झालेली लातूर-मुंबई सुपरफास्ट एक्स्प्रेस आजही आहे तशीच आहे. त्यात ना डब्यांची वाढ, ना फेऱ्यांची. उलट अगोदरच तुफान गर्दीने ग्रासलेल्या या गाडीला 2018 मध्ये बिदर पर्यन्त वाढवण्यात आलं. हे करत असताना लातूरकरांचा विरोध फाट्यावर मारला. नाही म्हणायला आठवड्यातले तीन दिवस बिदर-यशवंतपुर (बंगळुरू) एक्स्प्रेस लातूरपर्यंत वाढवून एक प्रकारचं साटंलोटं करण्यात आलं. पण मग लातूर एक्स्प्रेस मध्ये एसी, जनरल, स्लीपर सर्वच डबे कमी पडतात. डब्यांची संख्या किंवा गाडीची एखादी फेरी वाढवण्याची कल्पना कुणालाच का आली नसेल देव जाणे, पण लातूरकर आर्त स्वरात लातूर-मुंबई गाडीची एक फेरी दिवसा पुण्यापर्यंत करावी ही मागणी अनेक वर्षांपासून लावून आहेत.

एखाद्या स्टेशनवरून गाडी सुरू करण्यासाठी Pit Line ची रेल्वेपट्टी असावी लागते जेणेकरून रेल्वेची स्वच्छता नियमितपणे राखली जाते. लातूर स्थानकावर पिटलाईन बनवण्याची मागणी अगदी मागच्या महिन्यात मंजूर झाली. म्हणजे नवीन गाड्या सुरू करायला स्कोप आहे. रेल्वेगाड्यांसंदर्भात खालीलप्रमाणे काही मागण्या आहेत लातूरकरांच्या:

रेल्वेगाड्यांच्या मागण्या

1. लातूर – मुंबई सुपरफास्ट एक्सप्रेसचे डबे वाढवण्यात यावे व सर्व डबे LHB कोचेस चे असावे
2. लातूर – मुंबई सुपरफास्ट एक्स्प्रेस आठवड्यातले 4 दिवस लातूरमध्ये 16 तास रिकामी उभी असते. सदर काळात गाडीची एक फेरी पुण्यापर्यंत करण्यात यावी.
3. वरील मागणी शक्य नसेल तर लातूर-पुणे इंटरसिटी एक्स्प्रेस दिवसाच्या वेळी सुरू करण्यात यावी.
4. कोल्हापूर-नागपूर व हडपसर-हैदराबाद गाड्यांना डेली करण्यात यावे.
5. लातूर-छत्रपती संभाजीनगर अशी एक डेली अथवा वीकली गाडी सुरू करण्यात यावी
6. लातूरवरून दिल्ली, अहमदाबाद, चेन्नई, आग्रा, लखनऊ, वाराणसी, अजमेर, रामेश्वरम, त्रिवेंद्रम, विशाखापट्टणम इ. दूरस्थ शहरांना रेल्वेची सोय करण्यात यावी.
7. कुर्डुवाडी जंक्शन ते लातूररोड जंक्शन लोकल सुरू करण्यात यावी.
8. मिरज-परळी व पंढरपूर-निजामाबाद डेमु एक्स्प्रेसच्या वेळा बदलून दिवसा ठेवण्यात याव्यात.
9. हरंगुळ, औसारोड, मुरुड, ढोकी येथे एक्स्प्रेस गाड्यांना तर घरणी, भातांगळी येथे डेमु/पॅसेंजर गाड्यांना थांबा देण्यात यावा.
10. लातूर-नाशिकरोड मार्गे दौंड-अहमदनगर-मनमाड अशी रेल्वेदेखील सुरू करण्यात यावी.
11. भविष्यात लातूर-मुंबई वंदे भारत एक्स्प्रेस सुरू करण्यात यावी
12. धनबाद-कोल्हापूर दीक्षाभूमी एक्स्प्रेस सारख्या इतरही लांब पल्ल्याच्या गाड्या लातूरमार्गे वळवण्यात याव्यात.
13. तेजस, दुरोंतो, गरीबरथ, गतिमान, राजधानी इ. प्रकारच्या गाड्यादेखील लातूरमार्गे वळवून मोठ्या शहरांशी लातूरला जोडण्यात यावं.

स्थानक-सुसज्जतेच्या मागण्या

लातूर रेल्वेस्थानक आजही एखाद्या गावखेड्याच्या स्थानकासारखं छोट्याश्या इमारतीत आहे. हीच गत लातूररोड जंक्शन ची सुद्धा आहे. दिसायला आकर्षक असलं तरी हरंगुळ स्थानक सुद्धा असंच छोटंसं आहे, तेही केवळ एका प्लॅटफॉर्मचं. स्टेशन संदर्भात काही महत्वाच्या मागण्या

1. लातूररोड किंवा हरंगुळ स्थानकावर 4 पर्यन्त प्लॅटफॉर्म ची संख्या वाढवण्यात यावी.
2. दोन्ही स्थानकांवर सरकता जिना अर्थात एसकेलेटर आणि लिफ्ट ची व्यवस्था करण्यात यावी.
3. लातूर स्थानकावर लौंज, आहे त्यापेक्षा मोठे व सुसज्ज प्रतिक्षालाय, आहे त्यापेक्षा मोठे व स्वच्छ प्रसाधनगृह, कॅन्टीन आदि सेवा सुरू करण्यात याव्यात.
4. लातूर व लातूररोड जंक्शन च्या इमारती अद्ययावत व मोठ्या करण्यात याव्यात.
5. लातूरच्या प्लॅटफॉर्म क्रं 1 ची लांबी वाढवण्यात यावी, तसेच प्लॅटफॉर्मचे शेड्स सुद्धा वाढवण्यात यावे.
6. लातूर स्थानकावर दुसऱ्या बाजूने दादरा म्हणजेच फूट ओव्हरब्रिज बनवण्यात यावा तसेच हरंगुळ स्थानकावरही दादरा बनवण्यात यावा.
7. लातूर रेल्वेस्थानक परिसरात सुरक्षित व गार्डेड पार्किंग ची सोय करण्यात यावी.

नवीन रेल्वेमार्ग व दुहेरीकरण

लातूर-अहमदपूर-नांदेड या रेल्वेमार्गास मंजुरी मिळून अनेक वर्षे झाली तरी प्रत्यक्षात काम अजून दिसणं बाकी आहे. हीच गत सोलापूर-तुळजापूर-धाराशिव रेल्वेमार्गाचीही आहेच. काही विशिष्ट मागण्या यासंदर्भात:

1. लातूर रोड-नांदेड व सोलापूर-धाराशिव रेल्वेमार्गाचं काम तातडीनं पूर्ण करण्यात यावं.
2. लातूर-छत्रपती संभाजीनगर मार्गे केज-बीड-गेवराई अश्या नव्या रेल्वेमार्गाचं काम सर्वेक्षणात घेण्यात यावं.
3. लातूररोड-बोधन रेल्वेमार्गास लवकरात लवकर मंजुरी मिळवून देण्यात यावी.
4. लातूररोड-मिरज मार्गाचं दुहेरीकरण तात्काळ पूर्ण करण्यात यावं.
5. लातूररोड जंक्शन येथे बायपास लाईन बनवण्यात यावी.

लातूर रेल्वेस्थानकाची कनेक्टिव्हिटी

सदरील मागण्या विशेषतः लातूर मनपा व लातूर जिल्हा प्रशासनाकडे आहेत. लातूर रेल्वेस्थानक शहराच्या मध्यवर्ती भागापासून तब्बल 6 किमी दूर आहे. लातूररोड जंक्शन लातूर शहरापासून 40 तर चाकूरपासून 7 किमी अंतरावर आहे. हरंगुळ स्थानक शहरापासून साधारण 8 किमी तर लातूर रेल्वेस्थानकापासून 10 किमी अंतरावर आहे.  या सर्व ठिकाणी कनेक्टिव्हिटी सुसज्ज ठेवण्यासाठी खालीलप्रमाणे सिटी बसच्या फेरी वाढवण्यात याव्या.

1. लातूर-मुंबई प्रमाणेच कोल्हापूर-नागपूर, धनबाद-कोल्हापूर, सोलापूर-तिरुपती, नांदेड-पनवेल, हडपसर-हैदराबाद, अमरावती-पुणे या गाड्यांच्या वेळांनाही सिटी बस सोडण्यात याव्यात.
2. लातूर रोड जंक्शन पासून ते राष्ट्रीय महामार्ग क्रं 361 हा 1 किमी मार्ग अत्यन्त खराब अवस्थेत आहे. इथे सुसज्ज रस्ता बनवन्यात यावा.
3. नांदेड-बंगळुरू, छत्रपती संभाजीनगर-तिरुपती, शिर्डी-हैदराबाद, पूर्णा-हैदराबाद, छत्रपती संभाजीनगर-हैदराबाद या सर्व गाड्यांच्या वेळी लातूर ते लातूररोड जंक्शन आणि रिटर्न अश्या सिटी बसेस किंवा एसटी बसेस सोडण्यात याव्यात.
4. राष्ट्रीय महामार्ग 548B रिंग रोड ते लातूर रेल्वेस्थानक हा 1 किलोमीटर रस्ता चौपदरीकरण करून पथदिवे बसवण्यात यावेत.

मालगाडी व मालधक्का

1) लातूरच्या मालधक्क्याचे स्टेशनजवळच नवीन जागी स्थलांतरण करून सध्याच्या मालधक्क्याची जागा वाढीव प्लेटफॉर्म्स साठी वापरण्यात यावी.

2) सध्या मालधक्क्याकडे जाणारा रस्ता साई रोड मार्गे जातो व अत्यन्त दुरावस्थेत आहे. मालधक्क्यापासून ते स्टेशनरोड पर्यन्त बाह्यवळण उड्डाणपूल बांधून मालधक्क्याची वाहतूक थेट रिंगरोडला आणण्यात यावी.

3) मालधक्क्याची सुसज्ज इमारत बांधावी व भव्य शासकीय गोदाम आणि शीतगृह त्याच्याजवळच बनवण्यात यावे.

4) ईस्टर्न व वेस्टर्न डेडिकेटेड फ्रेट कॉरिडॉर प्रमाणे भविष्यातही होऊ घातलेल्या फ्रेट कॉरिडॉरच्या नकाशावर लातूरला आणण्याचा अग्रस्थानी विचार व्हावा. लातूर मधील रेल कोच फॅक्टरी, मोठ्या ऑइल मिल्स, साखर-सोयाबीन-तूर यांसारख्या पिकांचे उत्पादन व बाजारपेठ यांसारख्या सर्व महत्वाच्या गोष्टींचा विचार करता लातूरला मालगाड्यांची व भविष्यात लातूरमार्गे डेडिकेटेड फ्रेट कॉरिडॉर ची नितांत आवश्यकता आहे यात दुमत नाही.

मराठवाड्यातील इतर समस्या व मागण्या

1) परभणी-परळी-विकाराबाद रेल्वेमार्गाचे दुहेरीकरण लवकरात लवकर पूर्ण करण्यात यावे.

2) तब्बल 29 वर्षांपासून संथगतीने चाललेल्या परळी-बीड-अहमदनगर रेल्वेमार्गाचे काम तातडीने पूर्ण करून सदर मार्ग विद्युतीकरण करून घ्यावा.

3) परभणी-मनमाड रेल्वेमार्गाचे दुहेरीकरण व विद्युतीकरण तातडीने पूर्ण करण्यात यावे.

4) जालना-जळगाव व नांदेड-वर्धा रेल्वेमार्गाचे कामही तातडीने पूर्ण व्हावे.

5) संपूर्ण मराठवाड्यासाठी “मराठवाडा रेल्वे” हा स्वतंत्र रेल्वे विभाग घोषित करण्यात यावा.

6) घाटनांदूर-अंबाजोगाई-दौंड रेल्वेमार्गाचे सर्वेक्षण पूर्ण करून तातडीने मंजुरीसाठी प्रयत्न करावेत.

7) मराठवाड्यात एक स्वतंत्र रेल्वेयार्ड बनवण्यात यावे.

8) मनमाड-जालना, नांदेड-परभणी, परळी-परभणी मार्गावर लोकल सेवा सुरू करण्यात यावी (हे काम शंभर टक्के विद्युतीकरण व दुहेरीकरणाशिवाय होऊ शकत नसल्याने सध्याच्या ही तातडीची मागणी केवळ नांदेड-परभणी मार्गासाठी ग्राह्य धरण्यात येऊ शकते, मात्र उपरोक्त सर्व मार्गांवर लोकल ट्रेनची नितांत आवश्यकता आहे)

शेवटाकडे…

वरीलपैकी काही मागण्या अवाजवी किंवा अप्रात्यक्षिक वाटत असल्या तरी लातूर व मराठवाड्याच्या सर्वांगीण विकासासाठी प्रचंड गरजेच्या आहेत. या सर्व मागण्या लातूर व मराठवाड्याच्याजनतेच्या वतीने केंद्रीय रेल्वे मंत्री मा. श्री. अश्विनी वैष्णव, केंद्रीय रेल्वे राज्यमंत्री मा. श्री. रावसाहेब दानवे, महाराष्ट्र शासन व स्थानिक प्रशासनास सविनय सादर करण्यात येत आहेत. हा ब्लॉग इतका शेअर करा की शासनाला या मागण्यांची दखल घ्यावीच लागेल.

Some things are destined to be special. My trip to Hampi in July 2022 was one of them. Being a history and travel enthusiast, Hampi attracted me for almost a decade before I went there finally with my friends Satyajeet and Vyankatesh. The capital city of one of the greatest empires of medieval era is now in ruins, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Hampi attracts a lot of foreigners because of its astonishing architectural marvels. I had a greater reason to go, a hostility towards the last empire which preserved true Indian, Sanatani Hindu Culture through its architecture that still have some strong vibes. I wasn’t disappointed though.

History of Hampi

Hampi was the capital city of the Vijayanagara Empire. The Empire mostly covered modern-day Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Goa, Tamil Nadu, and the Kerala States of India. During the times of King Krishna Deva Raya, The empire was also extended till Udaygiri, present-day Udgir, dist. Latur in the state of Maharashtra. Basically, the empire was huge. Established in 1336 by King Harihara Raya I of the Dynasty Sangama, the Empire went on expanding against many challenges, especially during the times when the great Kakatiyas of Warangal (Present day Andhra Pradesh) and Yadavas of Devgiri (Present Day Maharashtra) were fallen to the invasions of Foreign Islamic Invaders. This was indeed an inspirational Kingdom where the Sangamas united all the Hindu powers of South India against the invaders, and risen above all like phoenix. A Portuguese traveler named Dominigo Paes visited Hampi in 1520 during Krishna Deva Raya’s rule. He described Hampi as the second largest city in the world after Beijing, as beautiful and large as Rome, and was so technologically advanced that the likes of which lacked in the Europe at that time. He also described the advanced and robust system of irrigation that allowed farmers to yield the best crops at the lowest cost. He described city as a market full of precious stones, gold, abundant vegetation, artificial lakes, nearly 3000 temples, educational hubs, and so on. Basically, Hampi was the city of dreams built and preserved by the people.

Not only in development and asthetics, Vijayanagara Empire had a powerful army and political wisdom too. Any invader would not even dare of meeting Vijayanagara soldiers on the battlefield, and those who dared enough failed miserably. The only thing that doomed Hampi, was a fraction of their own soldiers. The Muslim soldiers in Vijayanagara Army fought for the Islamic Bahamani Army when the Bahamanis attacked Vijayanagara. The Radical Islamic power was so obsessed with wiping out the cultural heritage of a Hindu empire that they spent years demolishing each establishment, temple, palace, and idol in Hampi. Eventually, they ran out of money and manpower but the architectural marvels are still there. If they look so beautiful and dope in ruins, imagine what it would look like if it weren’t brutally destroyed. Taj Mahal is overrated, real architectural wonders are still there in Hampi. A disclaimer, though some of you might label me as an Islamophobe, whatever I said is an official archeological record. In any circumstance, interpretation, or narration, I do not intend to disrespect any Islamic religious ideology at all. I am against the tyrants who destroyed my nation in the medieval era.

Best Spots in Hampi

You will find a plethora of blogs, articles, and YouTube videos regarding what to see in Hampi. I am briefing my experience about some places that I loved the most, and some travel advices as well.

1. The Virupaksha Temple

All the ancient temples in Hampi are under the authority of Department of Archeological Survey of India (ASI) except a few. The Virupaksha Temple is a grand religious establishment which is still under worship. There is an entry fee for the Grabha Griha (The closer look of God Virupaksha Mahadev) of ₹ 25/-. The temple is full of mesmerizing views. It is really hard to believe that the Shikhars (High temple towers) carved with thousands of idols and having altitude of around 100 feet are still standing without any depreciation, even after 600 years. The next wonderful thing you notice is when you enter the temple there is a Mandapam (banquet halls made for carrying out religious and cultural functions. Every pillar is carved with ancient Hindu sculptures. In fact, all these pillars convey pictorial representation of the

Dashavtar saga depicted as per Hindu mythology.

As you enter the Garbha Griha, there is an ancient idol of Mahadev Virupaksha in a calm, blissful environment. After exiting the Garbha Griha, there is a pool beyond a door and 3 adjacent temples. We need to climb down the stairs to visit the ancient pool. The entire view looks beautiful. In the temple premises, there are some other Hindu deities with separate Garbha Griha for each. The pillars look like a polished marble work, but they’re ancient.

2. Kadlekalu Ganesh

Located just beside Virupaksha Temple on a hilltop, Kadlekalu Ganesh is a 30 feet, monolithic Ganpati Idol in a temple. There are Dashavtar and other Hindu Sculptures carved on literally each temple pillar of Hampi. There is a mandapam in this temple too. Entire Hampi looks beautiful from this hilltop.

3. Hazar Rama Temple

Few kilometers from Virupaksha Temple, Hazar Rama Temple is perhaps the legit 8^th wonder. Entire epic of Uttar Ramayana (Ramayana’s later parts) is carved on stones in this temple. As you enter, there is a Yadnya Mandapa on the right, Kalyan Mandapa on the left and a grand Rama Temple in front of you. The pillars, ceiling, terrace palisades are so delicately carved that we literally feel two eyes are not enough to see this beauty at its full.

4. Underground Shiva Temple

This is one of the earliest establishments of Vijayanagara Empire. This temple was built by King Bukka Raya I in probably 14^th Century. The idol of Lord Shiva in this temple is known as Prasanna Virupaksha or Pataleshwar. For some reasons I don’t know, I felt a weird vibe here. The ruins of temple might have made me feel nervous but the feeling was same as when I saw the fictional city of Old Valyria in Game of Thrones.

5. Vijaya Vitthala Temple

This temple is the main reason why all the national and international tourists visit Hampi. Widely known for the famous Stone Chariott inside the premises, the temple is a real eye catcher. Built in 16^th century over 42 years by 2 Kings, the temple contained musical pillars in its main Sangeet Mandapam (Music Hall). The pillars were made of stone and sounded like musical instruments. It is said that on Mahanavami festival, there used to be a music program in this temple and the sound of musical pillars could be heard from 2 kilometers afar. On the other hand, the chariot made of stones depicts the chariot of Arjun in Mahabharat. Despite the efforts of demolishing, the entire Vijaya Vitthala Temple is still a beauty. The Garbha Griha of temple contained idols of God Vitthal and Goddess Rukmini together. Locals say the same idols have been relocated to Pandharpur’s famous Vitthal Mandir in Maharashtra. However, this theory is debatable. There are still some musical pillars in there, you can hear them sound like Tabla and Pakhwaj.

6. Kishkindha and Anjanedri

Though it lacks historical evidences, I strongly believe that the epic of Ramayana had happened for real. Speaking of wonders spoken in the story, I believe we, and especially the Indians exaggerate things too much. So much so that even real incidents seem fake. When it comes to the Vanar Sena, the army of Monkey-like species in Ramayana, I believe they were one of the highly evolved but not human kind of monkeys. Even until the 20^th Century, the North Sentinal Island in India had humans who were having tails. Therefore there is a good chance that the Vanar Sena, possibly the Neanderthal men existed in South India during the times of Ramayana.

The Kishkindha empire was the kingdom of Vanaras. They were strong, huge, spoke languages and possessed knowledge as well. Present day Hampi was the capital city of Kishkindha. Lord Hanuman was born here. The birthplace of Lord Hanuman is the Anjanedri Hill. There is a temple atop the hill for which one has to climb around 700 steps. Temple does not look like its ancient but there’s a stone in a glass shelf inside the temple. The stone was one of the millions that were used for building the Ram Setu. Interestingly, the stone is floating above the water even today.

From the hilltop, you can get a mesmerizing view of nature. For me, climbing this hill was the most divine experience ever.

There are other hills in Kishkindha as well, including those where Vanara King Bali and his brother Sugreev used to live.

7. Tungabhadra Dam, Hosapete

After all the ancient architectures you have seen and all the places you have visited, the Tungabhadra Dam feels like a delicious dessert after a feast. The River Tungabhadra flows through Hampi as well and there are Coracle Rides available for enjoyment. The river further goes to Hosapete, a nearby town and a huge dam is built on it in the British Era. The dam is surrounded by some mountains. Once you visit the entry gate of dam, a bus comes and takes you up to the light house of the dam. The dam looks immensely beautiful and huge from atop the Light House hill. Another bus then comes and takes you down to the dam wall. There are gardens all beside this wall and a closer look to the dam gives chills. Down the line, there are musical fountains, dashing cars and so many other recreational activities that make this place truly enjoyable.

Travel Guide for Hampi

1. How to Reach Hampi ?

If you are an international or even an Indian tourist not from Karnataka or nearby, traveling to Bengaluru by flight is the best option. From Bengaluru, there are a lot of trains available to Hosapete. Hosapete is a town located 12 KM from Hampi. From Hosapete, you can reach Hampi by 3 modes

1. City Bus from Hosapete Bus Station, available on 20-30 minutes frequency, costs around 20 ₹
2. Auto Rickshaw, costs ₹ 200-300 for 3 people
3. Cabs – Costs around ₹ 1000 for 4 people

If you are from Karnataka, Maharashtra, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala, Train to Hosapete is the best commute. You can also come by your own vehicle as Hosapete is situated on a junction of national Highways.

If you’re anywhere from the north of Maharashtra, flying to Bengaluru is the best option. Trains are also an option when time is not a constraint.

2. Where to stay?

The best advice can be to stay at Hosapete, as it has hospitals, chemist shops, good hotels, resorts, security, daily needs shops etc. Hampi is a small village and there are no hospitals or chemist shops. There is also a network connectivity issue in there. You can go to Hampi during day and return to Hosapete in the evening.

However, I liked staying at Hampi. I stayed at this beautiful guest house called “Temple View Guest House” in Hampi. It is located just 200 meters from Virupaksha Temple. The rooms were clean, every necessity was available including high-speed Wi-Fi. There is a restaurant at the ground floor run by Mr. Shambhu. Shambu makes delicious Dosa and Uttapam.  At night, the view of Virupaksha Temple from its terrace was dope. The cost of stay at this restaurant was very reasonable and the owner was very kind and welcoming. I would highly recommend you all to stay at this guest house.

There was one more restaurant right in front of this guest house called Taste of Brahmins. It was a home-style food restaurant. If you love South Indian food, this place is highly recommended. I loved the taste of Idli and Appam.

3. How to commute?

The best way to commute in Hampi is by hiring a cab. I highly recommend Travel MaaYa travel agency to book your cab. The fares are reasonable, their drivers are experienced & disciplined and cars are clean as well. My experience was pretty good with Travel MaaYa. Apart from cabs, you can hire scooters from Kamalapur, a village 4 KM from Hampi. You can also hire an auto rickshaw for 3 people. There are bicycles and mopeds available on rent in Hampi. The total area is around 30 KM. So it is best you consider bicycles and mopeds for a limited distance.

4. Sanitation and Other Services

There are public toilets available at every site in Hampi. However, best advised that you should get your stuff done at the hotel itself and then leave for exploration. There are a lot of Lemonade and Juice Stalls at every spot. Snacks, biscuits, and fruits are also easily available. There are some Italian and continental restaurants in Hampi too. So if you feel hungry or thirsty during exploration, do not worry at all.

One more thing to keep in mind, as there is a severe network connectivity issue in Hampi, it is best that you take enough cash and change with you to avoid the card and UPI payment. There are high chances that low-speed internet can disrupt the transaction.

5. When to go?

Though I visited Hampi amidst light rain showers and low rush in July and it was beautiful too, the best time to visit Hampi however, is during October to February as there is low heat and humidity in that period. A pleasant weather and lush greenery will be welcoming you.

6. Security and Other Issues

There are less than 1% chances that you’ll get robbed or attacked in Hampi. It is a completely police-protected area. The people in Hampi i.e. the hotel owners, shop owners, agents, tour guides, small vendors all are very genuine and they do not charge beyond limits. Their hospitality is commendable as well.

7. Overall cost

A day in Hampi will cost anywhere between ₹ 1500 to ₹ 3000 depending upon the level of accommodation and mode of commute. It may even cost ₹ 5000 to ₹ 10000 per day if you stay at a 3 star hotel or a resort. My total cost from Latur to Hampi and return was ₹ 5000 for 2 days, including train tickets and almost every penny I spent in the entire tour.

However, the hotel and guest house prices may increase during peak days.

What happens in Hampi, becomes a happy memory lifelong!

रायरेश्वर,हे नाव तुम्ही शेवटचं कुठे ऐकलं होतं,काही आठवतं का? चौथीचा इतिहास? होय, हेच ते रायरेश्वर. शिवाजी महाराजांनी स्वराज्य स्थापनेची शपथ घेतली ती याच रायरेश्वराच्या साक्षीने. हे मंदिर प्रत्यक्ष पाहण्याची, अगदी डोंगर चढून, निसर्गाची मज्जा लुटत गिर्यारोहणाची संधी मला नुकतीच मिळाली ती ‘अनादि – एक विचार’ या पुण्यातील संस्थेमुळे. चला तर मग माझ्यासोबत रायरेश्वरच्या पठाराची शाब्दिक सैर करूया.

रायरेश्वर पठार

रायरेश्वर पठार हे सह्याद्रीच्या पर्वतरांगांमध्ये वसलेलं आहे, शिवरायांनी काबीज केलेले बरेच गड,किल्ले हे सह्याद्रीच्या पर्वतरांगांमध्ये आहेत,त्यामुळे सह्याद्री नेहमीच शिवप्रेमींना खुणावतं.

रायरेश्वर पठार पुण्यापासून ८४ किमी वर भोर तालुक्यात वसलेले आहे. कोराळे गावापासून अस्वल खिंडी पर्यंत पूर्व-पश्चिम पहुडलेल्या या पठाराचा विस्तार १६ किमी असून पठारावर असलेल्या सर्वोच्च टेकडीच्या माथ्यावरून उत्तरेला तुंग,तिकोना,लोहगड व विसापूर, प्रतापगड, केंजळगड,कमळगड,विचित्रगड व मकरंदगड हे किल्ले दिसू लागतात. पठारावर पाहण्यासारखे पांडवकालीन शिवमंदिर, पांडवकालीन लेणी, गोमुखकुंड आहे. हे पठार समुद्रसपाटीपासून १३३६ मिटर उंचीवर आहे. रायरेश्वर ला जाण्यासाठीचा मार्ग हा भोर तालुक्यातूनच जातो. भोर वरून रायरेश्वरला दोन मार्गांनी जाता येतं.पहिला मार्ग टीटे धरण मार्गे आंबवडे गावातून जातो, तर दुसरा मार्ग हा रायरी गावातून जातो.

सुरुवातीची जुळवाजुळव

ट्रेक ला जाण्याचा निर्णय तसा माझ्यासाठी सोपा नव्हता, ट्रेक या शब्दाचा आणि माझा दूरदूरचा संबंध नव्हता असं म्हणायला हरकत नाही. याची सुरुवात झाली, जेव्हा माझा मित्र DPM  म्हणजेच ज्ञानेश याने मला ट्रेक ला येण्याबाबतीत विचारले. माझी मनस्थिती अगदी द्विधा झालेली. एकीकडे तर ट्रेकिंग ला जाण्याची ईच्छातर खूप, पण त्याच वेळी धाकधूक ही होती की एकतर ट्रेकिंग बाबतीत मी नवखी आणि त्यात उंचीची भीती. परंतु रायरेश्वर पठार हे जास्ती उंच नाहीये आणि चढाईलाही तितकेसे अवघड नाहीये, अशी ग्वाही  जेव्हा ज्ञानेशने दिली,तेव्हा मी मनाचा हिय्या करून ट्रेक ला जाण्याचा निर्णय घेतला. ट्रेकिंग चा पहिलाच अनुभव, त्यामुळे सगळी तयारी साग्रसंगीत, ट्रेकिंग शुज पासून कॅप पर्यंत! लातूर वरून ट्रेकिंग ला जाणारी तशी मी काही एकटी नव्हते. तरीही अनेक आढेवेढे घेत ट्रेक ला जाण्याचा निर्णय झाला. लातूर वरून ट्रेक ला जाणारे आम्ही तिघे होतो. मी,ऋतुजा आणि साई. आमची थोडीशी तारेवरची कसरत होणार होती हे नक्कीच. कारण ट्रेक ची सुरुवात पुण्यातील केसरी वाडा येथून होणार आणि आम्ही रात्री च्या ट्रेन ने लातूर वरून निघून नंतर ट्रेक गाठणार. तर आमची ट्रेकिंग ची सुरुवात येथूनच झाली अस म्हणायला हरकत नाही, पण चलो…कोई नही! तारांबळ नाही उडाली तर तो ट्रेक कसला?

आम्ही आमचा लवाजमा घेऊन अखेर केसरीवाडा ला पोचलो आणि आमच्या प्रवासाला सुरुवात झाली. ट्रेक मध्ये आम्ही तिघे वगळता बाकी मंडळी पुण्याचीच. अमेय, अभिषेक, आरती, अवंती, ज्ञानेश, चैत्रा….. अशी एकूण आम्ही १७ जण ६ मुली आणि ११ मुले. तशी आमची कोणाशीच साधी तोंडओळख हि नव्हती परंतु हळूहळू जशी जशी प्रवासाला सुरुवात झाली आम्ही त्यांच्यातलेच एक झालो. आम्ही भोरला यथेच्छ न्याहारी करून रायरेश्वर कडे प्रस्थान केलं. हा मार्ग घाट रस्ता असल्यामुळे थोडासा कठीणच, वाट बरीच नागमोडी. आमच्या अंताक्षरी च्या गोंधळात काही जाणवले नाही,पण एखादे वळण काळजाचा ठोका चुकवल्याशिवाय राहत नाही. भोर च्या  थोडं अलीकडे लागलेला ‘नेकलेस पॉईंट. धरणीआईच्या गळ्यातील निसर्गाने ओवलेली पोत भासावी अश्या आकाराची ही वेळवंडी नदी. गमतीजमती करत,प्रवासाची मजा घेत,गाणी म्हणत, आम्ही डोंगराच्या पायथ्याशी पोहोचलो, तिथे एकमेकांची ओळख झाली आणि आमची वानरसेना सज्ज झाली चढाई ला. तसा डोंगर एक तासात चढून होण्यासारखा, सराईतपणे चढणारे पुढे निघून गेले आणि आम्ही नवखे थोडेशे मागे राहिलो,परंतु आमच्या सोबतीला आरती, अभिषेक, ओंकार, ज्ञानेश, मोनिका, मन्मथ हे सगळे होतेच सर्व अगदी आमच्या सोबतीलाच होते. चढत चढत जेव्हा मी पायऱ्यापाशी आले,तेव्हा वरती पाहिल्यावर थोडसं गरगरायला झालं,पण आता वरती पाहायचाच नाही,फक्त जी पायरी समोर आहे तिच्याकडेच पहायचं,हा आयुष्याला लागू होणारा नियम मी पाळायच ठरवलं.  थोडीशी उन्हाची काहिली जाणवत होती पण जसे आम्ही थोड उंचावर गेलो तसा गार रानवारा शीळ घालत आमच्या अंगाखान्द्याशी खेळू लागला,तसा सगळा थकवा कुठच्याकुठे पळून गेला, एकदम मस्त वाटल आणि आम्ही पठारावर पोहोचलो. तिथे आमचे लक्ष वेधून घेतले ते तिथल्या माकडांनी व त्यांच्या मर्कटलीलांनी. ही सर्व माकडे तहान-भुकेने व्याकुळलेली दिसत होती. सह्याद्रीचा हा स्वर्ग खरं पाहता या जनावरांचाच! वाघ, सिंह, कोल्हे, मोर आणि असे कैक प्रकारचे प्राणी इथे वास्तव्य करत असत मात्र आज त्यांचं अस्तित्व अगदी संपुष्टात आल्यासारखं आहे. स्वतः शिवाजी महाराज अनेक पत्रांमध्ये जंगली श्वापदांचा विनाकारण जीव घेऊ नका अशी सक्त ताकीद देताना आढळतात!

रायरेश्वराच्या पठाराच्या वरतून दरीचे दृश्य अगदी विहंगम वाटत होते. हे  दृश्य कॅमेऱ्यामध्ये साठवुन घेण्याचा केविलवाणा प्रयत्न सुरु झाला. काही वेळाने पठारावरचं फोटो सेशन संपवून आम्ही रायरेश्वरच्या मंदिराकडे मोर्चा वळवला.

रायरेश्वराचा इतिहास आणि ऐतिहासिक शपथविधी 

रायरेश्वराचं नाव इतिहासाच्या सुवर्णपानांवर कोरलं गेलं ते शिवरायांच्या शपथविधीमुळे. या घटनेमुळेच रायरेश्वराला अनन्यसाधारण महत्व प्राप्त झाले.

      २६ एप्रिल १६४५ हाच तो सोनेरी दिवस ज्या दिवशी हिंदवी स्वराज्याची मुहूर्तमेढ रोवली गेली. सोळा वर्षांच्या बालशिवरायांनी बारा मावळातील सवंगडी – कान्होजी जेधे, बाजी पासलकर, तानाजी मालुसरे, येसाजी कंक, सूर्याजी काकडे, बापुजी मुद्गल, यांच्या सोबतीने स्वराज्य स्थापनेची शपथ घेतली. तर ही घटना एका रात्रीत घडलेली नाहीये तर यामागे बराच इतिहास आहे.

रायरेश्वरास पूर्वी रोहिरेश्वर या नावाने सुद्धा ओळखले जात असे. १६४२ साली दादाजी नरस प्रभू यांनी यांनी एक गाव रायरेश्वर मंदिरास पूजेसाठी नेमून दिले होते व तेथे पुजारीही नेमला होता मात्र आदिलशाहास हि बातमी समजल्यावर आपल्या फतव्याविरोधात ही गोष्ट झाल्याचा राग येऊन त्याने तेथील शहाजी महाराजांचे मुतालिक दादोजी कोंडदेव यांना बडतर्फ केले व त्यांच्या जागी घोरपडे यांना सुभेदारी दिली. पुढे आदिलशहा व शहाजी महाराज यांच्यात समेट झाल्यावर दादोजी कोंडदेव यांना पुन्हा एकदा कोंढाण्याची सुभेदारी प्राप्त झाली.

यावेळी मावळ प्रांताचे प्रमुख देशमुख असलेले कान्होजी जेधे यांना शहाजी महाराजांनी शिवाजीराजांसोबत बंगळूरहून पाठवले होते शिवाजी महाराजांची अगदी सुरुवातीस साथ देणाऱ्यांमध्ये कान्होजी जेधे, बाजी पासलकर व त्यांचे बालपणीचे सवंगडी तानाजी मालुसरे हे होते. हळू हळू प्रांतातील मावळे शिवरायांच्या छत्राखाली एकत्र येऊ लागले. पावसाळ्यात चार महिने शेती करणारे मावळे पावसाळा झाल्यावर स्वराज्य निर्माणार्थ शस्त्र हाती घेऊ लागले. बघता बघता हजार बाराशे मावळे तयार झाले व स्वराज्याच्या पहिल्या मोहिमेचा बेत तयार झाला व तो होता रोहीड खोरे नावाचे मावळ स्वराज्यात सामील करून घेण्याचा.

यावेळी रोहीड खोऱ्याचे अधिकारी दादाजी नरस प्रभू शिवरायांना अनुकूल झाले व स्वराज्याच्या संकल्पाची सुरुवात रोहीड खोऱ्याचे दैवत असलेल्या रायरेश्वराच्या साक्षीने घेण्यासाठी शिवरायांच्या नेतृत्वात सर्व मावळे रायरेश्वराच्या दिशेने हातात ढाल तलवारी घेऊन हर हर महादेव असा जयघोष करीत चालू लागले. सर्व मावळ्यांना घेऊन महाराजांनी रायरेश्वाराच्या गाभाऱ्यात प्रवेश केला व रायरेश्वराच्या साक्षीने सर्वांनी स्वराज्य निर्मितीचा अभूतपूर्व संकल्प केला.

उचलतो म्हणुनी बेलभंडार!”

रायरेश्वर मंदिर

हे रायरेश्वराचे मंदिर पठारावर स्थित आहे. हे मुळ मंदिर खूप प्राचीन दगडी आहे, परंतु १८ व्या शतकात त्याची पुनर्बांधणी करण्यात आली. आम्ही जेव्हा आत मंदिरात गेलो तेव्हा एक वेगळ्याच प्रकारची नीरव शांतता जाणवली आणि मुळ दगडी बांधकाम असल्यामुळे खूप थंडगार वाटले, अगदी A.C मधे बसल्यासारखं. मंदिराच्या मूळ गाभार्यात स्वयंभू असे शिवलिंग होते. तिथेच मागच्या बाजूला शिवाजी महाराजांचे त्यांच्या मावळ्यासोबत शपथ घेतानाचे छायाचित्र आहे.हे मंदिर पांडवकालीन आहे असे म्हंटले जाते. हे मंदिर म्हणजेच स्वराज्याचे जन्मस्थान असे म्हंटले तरी वावगे ठरणार नाही.या मंदिराला ऐतेहासिक वारसा लाभलेला आहे.पठारावर रायरेश्वर मंदिराव्यतिरिक्त पांडव लेण्या हि आहेत.तर मंदिराचे दर्शन वगेरे घेऊन  आम्ही  तिकडेच थोडसं वेळ घालवला. गडकिल्ले म्हणजे साक्षात तीर्थक्षेत्र मानणाऱ्या अभिषेक ने रायरेश्वर च्या इतिहासाबद्दल थोडी माहिती दिली. एव्हाना आम्हाला चांगलीच भूक लागलेली,आम्ही पठारावर मस्त जेवण केले, आणि गड उतरायला सुरुवात केली. उतरत असताना आम्हाला पाण्याचा एक नैसर्गिक स्त्रोत दिसला, तेच गोमुखकुंड. filtered water ला ही लाजवेल इतकं नितळ आणि मधुर पाणी. पठार उतरताना चा अनुभव वेगळाच होता ,चढताना जेवढी दमछाक झाली नाही तेवढी उतरताना जाणवली,पाय अगदी उचलतच नव्हते, चेहरा तर अगदी लाल कोकंबासारखा झालेला.  

परतीचा प्रवास

परतताना आंबवडे ला ब्रिटीशकालीन “झुलता पूल” (Jijasaheb Suspension Bridge) पाहिला,तसेच नागेश्वर मंदिर ही पाहिले. कुतुहलाची गोष्ट आहे, ज्या निरव शांततेचा अनुभव रायरेश्वराच्या मंदिरात आला अगदी तसाच नागेश्वर मंदिरात हि आला. बराच वेळ तिथून निघावेसेच वाटले नाही.शेवटी निघणे भाग होते. परतीचा प्रवास तितकाच मजेदार होता,गाडी मध्ये बराच कल्ला केला, माहित नाही अश्यावेळी उत्साह कुठून संचारतो, पण एकूणच धमाल आली. सायंकाळी 8 वाजता आम्ही  केसरी वाडा ला परतलो, सगळे जिकडे तिकडे पांगले, अर्थातच परत दुसरीकडे ट्रेक ला जाऊ, हे आश्वासन देऊनच!

व्यक्ती आणि वल्ली

ट्रेक मधील सर्वात मजेदार भाग म्हणजे ‘अंताक्षरी’. खरंतर आमच्यात सुरवातीला थोडासा “ऑकवर्डनेस” होता, तो नाहीसा झाला अंताक्षरी मुळेच. गाण्यांनी आमच्या मध्ये एक वेगळाच दुवा निर्माण केला, आणि बऱ्याच जणांची ओळख झाली, जसे कि उत्साहाचा अखंड उर्जास्त्रोत म्हणावी अशी आरती. तसं पाहायला गेला तर सगळेच जण म्हणजे अमेय, अभिषेक, अवंती, आम्हाला ट्रेक मध्ये सामावून घेत होते .अवंती, अतिशय गोड असं व्यक्तिमत्व,मोठेपणाचा थोडा हि लवलेश तिच्या चेहऱ्यावर नव्हता. मनसोक्त आणि बेफिकीर चैत्रा, “मी तुला या आधी कुठेतरी पाहिलंय” असं म्हणणारा संकेत, ज्याच्याशी बोलताना ओळखीची पण गरज पडली नाही असा शांत आणि कविमनाचा प्रथमेश, अंताक्षरी प्रकारात बेताज बेगम म्हणावी अशी बोल्ड,बिनधास्त मोनिका, सतत मला motivate करणारा ज्ञानेश, ज्याच्या मुळे मी खरतर या ट्रेक चा भाग बनू शकले आणि आणखीन बरेच जण..! खरतर या सर्वांमुळे हि ट्रेक आणखी लक्षात राहिली.अजून एक मजेशीर गोष्ट म्हणजे सर्वांनी परतताना केलेला धमाल नाच..; अगदी बिनधास्त कुठलीही भीडभाड न बाळगता. माझ्या आयुष्यातील पहिलावहिला ट्रेक खरंच खूप सुंदर झाला तो या सर्वांमुळेच.

अनादी बद्दल थोडसं….

आजकालची तरुण पिढी खूप स्वार्थी आहे,स्वतःच्या पलीकडे त्यांना काही दिसतच नाही. सामाजिक भान जिथे फक्त भाषण आणि राजकारण बनून राहिलंय अश्या जमान्यात काही अवलिया, कॉलेजला जाणारे, सीए वगैरे सारखे अवघड कोर्सेस करणारे पुणेरी मुलं-मुली २०१५ मध्ये एकत्र येतात आणि “डेव्हलप, इंटिग्रेट, सर्व्ह” हे ध्येय घेऊन बनवतात अनादी – एक विचार. अमेय लिमये,ओंकार साबणे,श्रद्धा पोंक्षे आणि इतर काही जण अश्या माझ्याच वयाच्या या सर्वांनी एकत्र येऊन हि संस्था चालू केली. आज या संस्थेचे १०० सदस्य आहेत. “स्वराविष्कार” सारखे शास्त्रीय संगीताचे मोठे कार्यक्रम घेणे असो, “पिक-अ-बुक मधून वाचनाचा छंद जोपासनं असो किंवा दर विकेंड ला सकाळी टेकड्यांवरती झाडांची निगा राखण्यासाठी जाणं असो, कुठल्याही वैयक्तिक फायद्याशिवाय केवळ मनापासून ही विधायक कामं करण्यासाठी “अनादी” असणाऱ्या दैवी पॉझिटीव्ह शक्तीचा वाहता झरा मनात हवा आणि अनादी मधल्या सर्वांमध्ये ते मला जाणवलं! या ट्रेक चं नियोजनही त्यांनी अगदी चोख केलेलं, सतत सगळे leaders सगळे सोबत आहेत कि नाही, याची खबरदारी घेत होते.कोणी नवीन असेल तर त्याची पुरेपूर काळजी घेत होते आणि मदत करत होते.

 एकंदरच हा ट्रेक आणि अनादी संस्था माझ्यासाठी एक अविस्मरणीय अनुभव होता.

“Bhai iss speed se jayenge toh aadhe raste se baki log hamein wapis aate milenge!” Said Sairaj

“Poora toh aaj nahi hoga, jitna hoga utna toh karte hai na.” Said Dhananjay.

“Thoda abhi aur upar jayenge na toh elevation milega aur photos ache aayenge.” I added

“Prachi aaja, baith yahan..” said Sairaj when Prachi and Rinky were passing by.

“Prachi tu inke saath hai ya mere sath? Chal hum pura upar tak jane wale hai.” Said Rinky.

Our apparent group of 5 boys and 3 girls was having two opinions about climbing the mountain cliff of Rajgad Fort. We were the last amongst 80 other trip members. Rinky and Prachi were from the organization committee themselves. Halting at every 150 meters climbed, we had already finished our water bottles midway. Rinky and Prachi were still faster because they were the organization’s team members and they must not fail to reach the fort. The 5 boys – Dhananjay, Gajanan, Sairaj, Sanidhya, and Me were lagging behind. As the first two dialogues might conclude, we were doubting that would we even reach the fort? On reaching around 700 feet below the fort entrance, we boys found the girls Muskan, Rinky, and Prachi halting there. Rain started. We all kept our smartphones in Prachi’s waterproof bag and started going further. This last section was a very steep cliff. There was no going back now because nobody appeared coming towards us and climbing seemed easier than retreating. The very sincere-looking Muskan had so much luggage in her backpack that it was practically impossible to climb up with that. Despite that, she made it before the rest of us. That was indeed very inspiring. Muskan’s consistency, Rinky’s responsibility as a secretary, Dhananjay’s enthusiasm of going ahead, and my sheer wish to go to as high an altitude as I can, ended up we being on the fort eventually!

Flashback

On the right moment when WICASA Secretary Rinky Khithani posted about Rajgad Trek, I quickly filled up the form and paid the fee. I was lucky, the seats filled up in just a few hours after that.

With 2 Buses full of 90 students including WICASA committee members, the journey towards Rajgad was very enjoyable. 6 kilometers before the destination, the police officers stopped our buses. It took around 1 hour to get a grant for the journey ahead.

Initially, we weren’t just 8. Dashrath, Pooja, Avinash, Sagun went up so fast and literally disappeared. Dashrath and Sagun are indeed professionals when it comes to Trekking. Our turtle gang was left behind. Still, Abhiraj was with us for a considerable time and then he also geared up. The humidity and heat were making our gasps louder as we were walking further. We started taking many halts which had definitely cost our already limited time. But as described above, we made it to the fort.

The Fort

I have been living in Pune for a few years. The nature gift of Sahyadri ranges and the fortresses legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj would never keep you away from visiting them. Rajgad happens to be the first Capital Fort of Shivaji Maharaj’s Empire. Located on a hilltop named Murumb Devacha Dongar, the fort is 4514 feet high above sea level. There is no rope-way to make it convenient or faster, steeper slopes with only railings for your support and no staircases; the trek is definitely very tough. It was my first time to visit Rajgad, the first trek this much high in the last 12 years!

Many amongst us explored the fort. Some guys even reached Suvela Machi, the peak of Fort. This view in the picture above has been captured at Suvela Machi by Sagun. The fort takes more than a day to visit fully. We were just roaming nearby the Padma Lake. Prachi, the one who said “Mujhe chakkar aane laga hai” while climbing, went ahead in full speed after we reached the gates. Prachi and Dhananjay saw much of the fort. I was happy noticing the lush green nature and enjoying the elevation from the Chor Darwaja only.

Amidst all of this, this thought hit me many times that how could Shivaji Maharaj even managed to rule over these mountains when they are so tough to climb. How was it possible for his soldiers to raid and attack these forts at night? Reading in books about Maharaj and his Mavale is a different thing. You can only get the knowledge of history through that. Climb these forts up and you’ll feel the history yourself. The echoing chant I recited loudly during our climb was indeed out of this realization.

Descending, Sugar Factory Visit and Return Journey

After around an hour and a half, we started descending the mountain. Now, this was the real challenge because the same 700 feet steep cliff was the first step of the return journey. Slowly and firmly putting every step, Me, Sairaj, Sanidhya, Gajanan and Prachi were going back. Dhananjay also joined us after a while.

Climbing up was exhausting yet enjoyable. Returning was a little painful as I started having a mild headache. All my group members except Gajanan and Muskan changed bus. Now the buses were heading for the Sugar Factory visit. Every one of us was too hungry. The arrangements for lunch were in the town where the factory was located. The lunch happened to be the dinner. Then we visited the sugar factory and returned to Pune at 12:30 in the midnight.

Team WICASA

Well, many criticised Team WICASA for mismanagement of this trip. Though they couldn’t predict the possible delay and further inconvenience, they did manage well. Some of the big issues in the trip were inevitable. Team WICASA deserves appreciation to get the grant from Police officers. Team WICASA was responsible enough to get their food only after all the trip members have it. All these WICASA Committee members are students undergoing articleship, just like us. Place us in their stead and imagine the pressure of responsibility. You truly did a fantastic job Pune WICASA. We had a memorable experience.

Moments to Remember!

Be there the actual chemistry between some guys and girls or a cooked-up chemistry just to tease some of them, this cute, gentle leg-pulling was what I enjoyed the most. The medley (or song ruining ceremony as I like to call it) during the journey, the shayaris that I recited was a legit fun. There was an adventure as well. Someone from my group had stolen the Bakarwadi packet from Rinky’s bag and kept it inside mine. She got to know about it while climbing and shouted at Dhananjay. I hope she had taken it in a sporting way! Avinash, Dashrath, Dhananjay, Sairaj, Pruthviraj, Sanidhya are already my friends for many years. The new ones I made in the are Gajanan, Rinky, Prachi, Abhiraj, Monika, Pravin and Muskan. In the return journey, the deep conversation about life I had with Gajanan was very relaxing.

The last time I had this much fun, I was in 10^th standard, on a school trip. I am so grateful that I had this trip. Thank you Pune WICASA for this memorable experience!

आजादी की 75 वी सालगिरह, आजादी का अमृत महोत्सव और इतने लंबे सफर में आज भारत सिर्फ कहने को नहीं, सच मे दुनिया के कदम से कदम मिलाकर चल भी रहा है और एक ताकतवर देश के रूप में उभरा भी है. पूर्ण विश्वास से हम सब कह सकते है कि आनेवाले समय में हम भारत को एक महासत्ता बनाएंगे. भारत विश्वगुरु बनेगा. हां हममें लाख कमियाँ होंगी, हां हमने कईं सारी मुसीबतों से जूझना है लेकिन हम वो जरूर करेंगे. इन सब सफलताओं को हासिल करने में और आगे का रास्ता मुकम्मल करने में एक चीज का होना बहुत जरूरी है, और वो है राष्ट्रीय चरित्र, अंग्रेजी में कहा जाए तो नॅशनल कैरेक्टर!

नॅशनल कैरेक्टर क्या होता है?

किसी भी देश के लोगों को उनकी विविधताओं और विभिन्नताओं के बावजूद जो एक गुण, या फिर कोई सामाजिक आदत सकारात्मकता से व्यक्त कर दे वो है नॅशनल कैरेक्टर. यही एक गुण दिखने में कितना ही सामान्य क्यों न हो पर देश के आर्थिक विकास से लेकर युद्ध में देश की जीत तक सब कुछ बना सकता है.

राष्ट्रीय चरित्र का सर्वोत्तम उदाहरण

उदाहरण के लिये समझो, की जापान में आपको कोई भी भीड़ में लाइनें तोड़ता हुआ नहीं दिखाई देगा. चाहे जितनी भीड़ हो लेकिन वो लोग हमेशा लाइन से चलते है, सीढियां चढ़ते वक्त हमेशा दाईं ओर से आनेवाले लोगों के लिए जगह छोड़ते है फिर दाईं ओर से कोई आये या न आये. काम के प्रति जापानी लोग बड़े ही उत्साही होते है. लगातार 18 घंटो तक काम करना उनके लिए आम बात है. कहा जाता है कि किसी जापानी जूते की फैक्ट्री में मजदूरों ने हड़ताल की. हड़ताल में साधारण तौर से काम बन्द होता है, लेकिन उन्होंने काम किया. जब तक उनकी मांगे मंजूर नहीं हुई तब तक सारे मजदूर सिर्फ एक पैर का जूता बनाते रहे. सामुराई जैसी सामंत व्यवस्था को जापानी लोगों ने देखते ही देखते खत्म किया और आज एक सफल लोकतंत्र के रूप में जापान दुनिया के सामने है. इन्ही सब आदतों का परिणाम है कि 2011 की भीषण सुनामी और भूकंप के बाद सिर्फ एक साल में जापान अपने नुकसान से उभर गया. यही वजह है कि परमाणु हथियार गिरके जो शहर खाक हो चुके थे, वही हिरोशिमा और नागासाकी आज फिरसे जापान के सबसे खूबसूरत शहरों में से एक है. दुनिया का सबसे तेज रेल नेटवर्क हो या दुनिया की सबसे तेज कारें, सब जापान से ही बनता है. छोटासा जापान, क्षेत्रफल और जनसंख्या में लगभग हमारे महाराष्ट्र जितना होगा लेकिन आज दुनिया की तीसरी सबसे बड़ी अर्थव्यवस्था है. जी हाँ, जीडीपी नॉमिनल में जापान भारत से दो पायदान आगे है. देश का राष्ट्रीय चरित्र इस कदर देश को आगे ले जा सकता है.

क्या भारत का कोई नॅशनल कैरेक्टर है?

बिल्कुल है. बस हम उसे पहचान नहीं पाते. विविधताओं में एकता हमारे देश की खूबसूरती है, और यही हमारा नॅशनल कैरेक्टर भी है. बस सवाल ये है कि हमारी एकता के मायने क्या है? हिन्दू एकता? मुस्लिम उम्मा? द्रविड़ नाडु?

ऐसी बँटी हुई एकात्मता से देश आगे कैसे निकलेगा? हमे कुछ प्रमुख मुद्दों पर अपने मतभेद भूलकर एक होना पड़ेगा, तभी हमारी एकात्मता सार्थ है. हमारा पिछड़ापन ही ये है कि चाहे धर्मनिरपेक्षता का पाठ 70 सालों से रटवाकर सत्ता में रहनेवाली पार्टी हो या फिर हिन्दू एकता का नारा देकर सत्ता में आनेवाली पार्टी हो, हम अपने मुद्दों को सही से पहचान नहीं पाते. बिल्कुल ही सच है कि हमारे देश मे कईं और पाकिस्तान पनप रहे है और ये भी सच है कि शायद देश एक बहुत ही कड़वी पूँजीवादी परंपरा की ओर बढ़ रहा है जहाँ दो चार बड़े उद्योजक देश की संपत्ति का कंट्रोल हाथ मे ले लेंगे. ये भी सच है कि देश पर पर्यावरण का गंभीर खतरा है और ये भी सच है कि देश में एक बड़ा धार्मिक गृहयुद्ध हो सकता है. पूरा सच तो ये है कि दुनिया के बडे बडे देश कभी चाहते ही नहीं कि भारत उनसे आगे निकल जाए और इसीलिए वो हर वो प्रयास करते है जिससे भारत पिछड़ा रहे. लेकिन भारत फिर भी आगे निकल जाता है और फिर उन्ही बड़े देशों की जरूरत बन जाता है. बस यही पहचानना है हमें, की हममें जो भी मनमुटाव बनते है उनमें जरूर किसी बाहरी ताकद का हाथ होता है, कभी अमरीका तो कभी चाइना! लेकिन भारत का सार्वभौम, भारत की अंदरूनी सुरक्षा, भारत की सेना, भारत की प्राचीन हिन्दू-बौद्ध-जैन-सिख संस्कृतियां और भारत की कानून व्यवस्था इन सबमे हमे अपने मतभेद भूलकर हर बार एक होना है. देश में यूनिफॉर्म सिविल कोड हो या जनसंख्या नियंत्रण कानून, धारा 370 कश्मीर से हटना हो या चीनी उपकरणों पर पाबंदी हर मामले पर इस एकता का असर दिखता है और दुनिया इस एकता के सामने झुकती है.

कैसे बनेगा नॅशनल कैरेक्टर?

ऊपर लिखी बड़ी-बड़ी बातें तो फिर भी धीरे-धीरे मुकम्मल होंगी, लेकिन कुछ चीजें है जो हम अभी बदल सकते है और हमे तुरंत प्रभाव से करनी चाहिए. देश मे अभी सबसे बड़ा संकट पर्यावरण का है, सब मिलकर उजड़े पहाड़ों पर पेड़ भी लगाने लग गए तो भी बारिश का पानी जमीन सोख लेगी और देश का भविष्य में रेगिस्तान बनना टल जाएगा. क्या ट्रेनों में चढ़ते वक्त लाइन से खड़े रहने में हमे अलग से बदलाव की जरूरत है? ये तो हम आज से ही कर सकते है! क्या रास्ते पर, फुटपाथ पर या किसी भी सार्वजनिक जगह पर गंदगी फैलाना हम अभीभी बंद नहीं कर सकते? कितना कष्ट लगेगा अपनी अपनी पानी की बोतलें पहाड़ों से उठाकर घर लाने में या उसे सही तरह से डिस्पोज करने में? क्या नदियों की स्वच्छता हमारा जिम्मा नहीं? हम ये सब चीजें कर सकते है और बतादूँ की हम धीरे धीरे इसमें बढ़ोतरी भी कर रहे है, बस एक दिशा की जरूरत है.

इतिहास के पन्नो से मिसालें

वानरसेना ने बनाये हुए रामसेतु से लेकर 1857 के राष्ट्रीय उठाव तक हमारे इतिहास के पन्ने हमारे पूर्वजों के नॅशनल कैरेक्टर की गवाही देते है. ब्रिटिश अधिकारी मैकॉले ने जब भारत का पूरा भ्रमण किया तो उसने अपनी रिपोर्ट में लिखते हुए कहा था कि ये लोग अपनी परंपरा के, अपने वचन के और अपने उसूलों के पक्के है. इनकी शिक्षा व्यवस्था बहुत ही ताक़दवर है और इनको आसानी से तोड़ा नहीं जा सकता. ये बात 19 वी सदी की है. अंग्रेजो ने हमारी शिक्षा व्यवस्था को अच्छेसे तोड़ दिया, हम टूट गए और हमपर जुलुम हुए. यही सीखना है कि भगवान राम के जमाने से ज्ञान साधना हमारा नॅशनल कैरेक्टर है, हमे अपनी शिक्षा व्यवस्था को फिर से बेहतर बनाना है. चंद्रगुप्त मौर्य के जमाने से हमारा नॅशनल कैरेक्टर शौर्य का है, हमे अपना शौर्य मरने नहीं देना है. महाभारत के समय से हमारा चरित्र “अहिंसा परमो धर्म, धर्महिंसा तदैव च” कहते हुए अन्याय के खिलाफ हथियार तानने वाला ही है! राजपूतों से लेकर मराठो तक, सिखों से लेकर द्रविड़ों तक हर समाज ने देश के इतिहास में योगदान दिया है और आज भी हमे वहीं करना है.

नॅशनल कैरेक्टर की सही परिभाषा!

देश लोगों से बनता है, और लोगों में भेद होना बहुत ही नैसर्गिक है. हाथ की पांच उंगलियाँ एक समान नहीं होती, देश के सब लोग एक जैसे, एक ही सोच के कैसे बन पाएंगे? हमारे नॅशनल कैरेक्टर का पहला उद्देश्य और सही से कहा जाए तो तरीका यही हो कि मेरा हिन्दू होना, किसीका मुसलमान होना, किसीका बुद्ध होना या फिर किसीका जैन होना देश से बढ़कर नहीं हो सकता. मेरा ब्राम्हण होना, मेरा मराठी होना, मेरा दक्षिणपंथी होना, या किसी और का क्षत्रिय होना, वामपंथी होना या द्रविड़ होना, सब अपनी अपनी मर्यादा तक ही सीमित होना चाहिए. किसी भी तरह से देश के अपने ही लोगों के प्रति हिंसक होना गलत है और उसके खिलाफ ही रहना पड़ेगा. देश अपनी गति से विकसित हो रहा है, होकर रहेगा लेकिन जब तक हम अपनी एकता को बनाएं रखते है, तब तक हमारा नॅशनल कैरेक्टर जीवित रहेगा और हमे आगे ले जाएगा. हमे इस विविधता में एकता के नॅशनल कैरेक्टर को सही से अपनाना चाहिए.

साधारण अडीच वर्षांपूर्वी पुणं सोडून लातुरात वापस आलो होतो. आज वापस पुण्यात आलोय. करिअर, आयुष्य सर्वच पुण्यात निघावं वाटतं इतकं पुणं सुंदर आहेच. मी एकटा नाही जो मराठवाड्यातून येऊन पुण्यात स्थायिक होण्याची स्वप्ने बघतोय, माझ्याआधी किमान आठ दहा लाख लोक तरी हे गेल्या तीन दशकांत करून बसलेत आणि आज पुणेकर झालेत. मात्र या सगळ्यात एक गोष्ट व्यक्तीगतरीत्या मनाला फार लागते ती म्हणजे “प्रॉपर” पुणेकरांचं मराठवाड्यातील लोकांना किंवा एकंदरच पुण्याबाहेरून आलेल्या सर्व विस्थापितांना पावलोपावली पाण्यात पाहणं. हां आता त्याने आम्हाला फार फरक पडतो अशातला भाग नाही; मात्र हा एक मोठा, कमी बोलला जाणारा एक सांस्कृतिक वाद आहे आणि त्यावर आज मी उघडपणे आणि परखडपणे बोलणार आहे. आणि यासाठी पुणेकर आणि पुणेत्तर या दोन्ही बाजूंच्या मतांना इथे मी प्राधान्य देईन आणि दोन्ही बाजूंवर टीका करेन, त्यामुळे कुठल्याही बाजूने मला पक्षपाती समजू नये.

पुणेकरांची बाजू

कधी काळी ज्या पेठा पुण्याची व्हीन्टेज शान होत्या आज तिथे विदर्भ-मराठवाड्यातून आलेले विद्यार्थी, छोटे व्यावसायिक रस्ता अडवून बसलेत. कर्वेनगर तर पूर्णपणे बाहेरील विद्यार्थ्यांनी गजबजलेलं असतं (कोरोनापूर्वी तरी असायचं आणि कोरोनानंतरही असेल). बाहेरून नोकरी करणारे विविध कंपन्यांचे कर्मचारी असो किंवा जंगली महाराज रोड वरील डोसा-पराठा च्या हातगाडीवाले छोटे व्यावसायिक असो, हे सगळे पुण्याच्या बाहेरून आलेले लोकच असतात. मग त्रास का होतो या सर्वांचा? तर हे समजून घेणं गरजेचं आहे की पुण्यामध्ये रहदारीचा प्रॉब्लेम बाहेरच्यांच्या येण्यामुळेच वाढलाय. पेठांच्या छोट्याश्या गल्ल्यांमधून शॉर्टकट काढत जे दुचाकीस्वार जातात त्याचा स्थानिकांना रोज किती त्रास होत असेल याची कल्पना केलीये? पेठांमधील “प्रॉपर”  पुणेकरांमध्ये वृद्ध लोक मोठ्या प्रमाणावर राहतात. त्यांना या रहदारीचा त्रास होतो. या वृद्ध मंडळींनी आयुष्यभराची कमाई घालवून घेतलेले फ्लॅट्स बाहेरील मंडळी भाड्याने घेऊन राहतात आणि अनेक उदाहरणं मी स्वतः डोळ्यांनी पाहिलीयेत की बाहेरून येणारे बॅचलर्स या फ्लॅट ची काय अवस्था करतात, बऱ्याच प्रमाणात त्यांचा सोसायटी वाल्याना कसा त्रास होतो वगैरे. अगदी प्रामाणिकपणे त्या सर्व बॅचलर मुला-मुलींनी सांगावं की तुमच्या स्वतःच्या घरी किरायदारांनी दारू प्यायलेली तुम्ही खपवून घ्याल का? मग इथे भाड्याने राहताय, थोडं स्वातंत्र्य मिळतंय तर मग दुसऱ्यांच्या घरी त्यांची परवानगी नसताना असले उद्योग करणं तुम्हाला तरी पटतं का? हे असे उडाणटप्पू बॅचलर्स इतरांच्या तुलनेत संख्येने कमी असले तरीही, काय म्हणून पुणेकरांनी बाकीच्यांवर तरी विश्वास ठेवावा? ज्या सोसायट्यांमध्ये हे सगळं चालतं तिथलं भाडं परवडत नसेल तर एक तर करू नका असलं काही किंवा तेवढं कमवायला तरी लागा जेणेकरून तुमच्या शानशौकीचा तुमच्या घरमालकास काही प्रॉब्लेम नसेल.

या व्यतिरिक्त सततच्या वाढत्या स्थलांतराने पुण्याच्या संसाधनांवर ताण येतोय. सहज म्हणून कधी पहाटे साडेपाच ते साडेसात च्या दरम्यान स्वारगेट चौकात उभे राहून बघा, एकट्या लातूर वरून किमान 50 ट्रॅव्हल्स बसेस रोज येतात, अगदी याही काळात; उर्वरित मराठवाडा आणि विदर्भाचं तर आणखी नाव पण नाही घेतलं मी. पहिल्या लॉकडाऊन च्या अगोदर जे लोक पुण्याहून वापस गावी गेले त्यांना त्यांच्या गावकऱ्यांनी तरी कितपत आपुलकी दाखवली होती ते अनेकांनी डोळ्यांनी पाहिलंय. मग इतक्या संख्येने जर बाहेरील लोक पुण्यात येत असतील तर वाढती रहदारी, प्रदूषण, इथल्या मूलभूत सुविधांवर येणारा ताण या सर्वांसाठी बाहेरून स्थलांतरित होणारे लोक जबाबदार नाहीत का? इथले प्रॉपर्टी रेट्स आभाळ फाडून गेलेत त्यासाठी ही स्थलांतरित लोकांची वाढलेली डिमांड कारणीभूत नाही का? पुणं विकसित आहे आणि तुमचं गाव नाही यामध्ये पुणेकरांची काय चूक? असे अनेक खरेखुरे प्रश्न पुणेकरांच्या मनात असतात मात्र तिरकस बोलण्याव्यतिरिक्त पुणेकरांनी आजवर काही विशेष केलं नाही, एकप्रकारे येणाऱ्या प्रत्येक पाहुण्याचं स्वागतच केलं आणि संधी दिल्या इथे समृध्द होण्यासाठी.

पुणेत्तरांची बाजू

मुळी बाहेरचे म्हणजे नक्की कुठले हाच पहिला प्रश्न. कारण आजचे पुणेकर तरी कुठले मूळचे, पिढ्यांचे पुणेकर होते? पुण्याला घडवलं, ओळख बनवलं, विकसित केलं ते बाहेरच्याच लोकांनी. आदिलशाहीने गाढवाचा नांगर फिरवलेल्या पुनवडीला पुण्य नगरी बनवलं सर्वप्रथम कुणी? तर सिंदखेडराजा, विदर्भातून आलेल्या राजमाता जिजाऊंनी! याच मातेने जो पुत्र दिला, त्या छत्रपती शिवाजी महाराजांनी मराठा इतिहासाची मुहूर्तमेढ पुण्यात रोवली आणि स्वराज्याचा विस्तार केला. मूळचे कोकणी असणाऱ्या पेशव्यांनी ग्रामदैवत तांबडी जोगेश्वरी पासून ते सातही वारांच्या पेठा, शनिवारवाडा पासून ते कधीही न विसरता येणारा जाज्वल्य राजकीय इतिहास पुण्याला बहाल केला; देशाच्या इतिहासात किमान एकदातरी पुणे शहर जवळजवळ सगळ्या देशाचं राजकीय केंद्रबिंदू बनलं. मूळचे कोकणी असणारे लोकमान्य टिळक असोत, गोपाळ कृष्ण गोखले असोत, साताऱ्याहून आलेले आगरकर असोत किंवा मुंबईचा जन्म असणारे, पुण्यात जन्म घातलेले आणि पुण्याला सांस्कृतिक विकासाचं शिखर गाठून देणारे पु ल देशपांडे असोत, ही सर्वच्या सर्व मंडळी आजच्या पुणेकरांच्या भाषेत बाहेरचीच होतात आणि याच लोकांचा जाज्वल्य अभिमान असल्याशिवाय तुम्हाला आज पुणेकर म्हणवून सुद्धा घेता येत नाही. मग बाहेरचे बाहेरचे म्हणता तरी कुणाला? जे तुमचं सर्वात मूळ दुखणं असतं पुण्याच्या सांस्कृतिक वारश्याला बाहेरच्यांच्या येण्यामुळे गालबोट लागण्याचं, त्या एका गैरसमजाच्या वर्मी घाव आहे हा. काय फरक पडतो पण तुमच्या ओरडण्याने? पुणे-पिंपरी चिंचवड मिळून आज लोकसंख्या एखाद्या कोटीच्या घरात आहे, त्यातले 25 लाख तरी मूळचे “प्रॉपर” पुणेकर असतील का? तरीही सर्वजण पुणेकर आहेत ना? तुम्ही किंवा तुमचे पूर्वज सुद्धा कधीकाळी असेच बाहेरून आलेत आणि पुण्याला समृद्ध बनवलंत.  कोरोना आला आणि अर्ध्याहून अधिक बाहेरची मंडळी निघून गेली, तर मोकळे रस्ते बघून तुम्ही खुश झालात पण तुमच्या घरी कामाला येणाऱ्या बाईपासून ते पेट्रोल पंपावरील कर्मचाऱ्यांपर्यंत सर्वत्र तुटवडा होता तृतीय श्रेणी कामगारांचा. विदर्भ-मराठवाड्यातील दुष्काळाची, अविकसिततेची किंवा तुलनेने कमी विकसित असण्याची अगतिकता या लोकांना इथे घेऊन येते आणि म्हणून तुमची सोय होते. विद्यार्थी सोडून गेले तर तुमचे फ्लॅट्स रिकामे पडले, भाडं यायचं बंद झालं. मेस बंद पडल्या, क्लासेस बंद पडले, कंपन्यांमध्ये कामाला लोक नाहीत आणि बघता बघता अनेक टोमणे मारणाऱ्या प्रॉपर पुणेकरांचे, थोडं स्पष्टच बोलतोय, पण धंदे बसले. बाहेरच्यांना शिव्या घालणं, पाण्यात पाहणं सगळं ठीक, पण बाहेरच्यांशिवाय तुमची अर्थव्यवस्था पत्त्याच्या बंगल्यासारखी ढासळते याची प्रचिती तर आली ना हो पुणेकरांनो? अनेक वेळेला असं लक्षात आलंय की हा दुजाभाव केवळ विदर्भ-मराठवाड्याकरिता असतो. रोख फक्त विदर्भ- मराठवाड्यावर यासाठी कारण पश्चिम महाराष्ट्र आणि कोकणात तर तुमच्यातील अनेकांची स्वतःची मूळ गावं आहेत. मग तिकडून तुम्ही, तुमचे सगेसोयरे आलेले चालतात तर विदर्भ-मराठवाड्याने काय घोडं मारलंय? थोड्या वेगळ्या, ज्याला तुम्ही गावठी समजता, अशा शैलीची का होईना पण आम्हीही मराठीच बोलतो ना? तुमचं बोललेलं आम्हाला कळतं, आमचं तुम्हाला मग आम्ही तुमच्यासारखं शुद्ध मराठी नाही बोललं तर त्याने तुमच्या भाषा संस्कृतीवर थोडीच परिणाम होणार आहे? शेवटी बोलत तर सर्वजण मराठीच आहोत ना? तुळजापूर पासून ते अंबाजोगाई पर्यंत तुमची दैवतं मराठवाड्यात आहेत, आणि मराठवाड्यातील अनेकांची जेजुरीचा खंडोबा, कोल्हापूरची अंबाबाई. हे नातं जुनं आहे, देवानं घालून दिलेलं आहे, मग विदर्भ-मराठवाडा परके कसे?

पूर्वीचं पुणं राहिलं नाही हे तुमच्या एकट्याचं दुखणं नाहीये, जगातील जवळजवळ प्रत्येक मोठ्या शहराची तीच अवस्था आहे. इमिग्रेशन क्रायसिस चा काय प्रॉब्लेम असतो ते युरोपियन शहरांमध्ये आयुष्य गेलेल्या लोकांना विचारा, तुमच्यासाठी बाहेरचे असणारे तरीही महाराष्ट्रातलेच लोक आहेत, परदेशातील नाही. आणि शेवटचं, कर्म कुणाला चुकत नाही म्हणतात. तुम्ही बाहेरचे म्हणून इतरांना पाण्यात पाहता, तुमची मुलं परदेशात गेल्यावर त्यांनाही तीच वागणूक मिळते मग!

उपाय काय?

देशासमोर आणि जगासमोर काही अत्यन्त ज्वलंत समस्या आहेत, त्यातली सर्वात मोठी पर्यावरण आणि लोकसंख्येची वाढ. हीच समस्या दुष्काळास आणि पर्यायाने स्थलांतरास कारणीभूत आहे. त्यामुळे विदर्भ – मराठवाड्यात सध्या विकास सुरू असला तरीही पुण्याला येणारांचं प्रमाण बंद तर होणार नाही. गरज आहे ती नियोजनाची. पुण्याच्या प्रशासनाने काही गोष्टी मनावर घेऊन अवैध स्थलांतर रोखलं पाहिजे, शहराचं योग्य नियोजन केलं पाहिजे आणि पायाभूत सुविधा जसं की मेट्रो, रिंग रोड, पाणी, रस्ते यांच्यावर अधिक भर देऊन पुण्याच्या समस्यांचं कायमस्वरूपी समाधान काढलं पाहिजे, जेणेकरून भविष्यातील स्थलांतरांना पुणे झेलू शकेल. या सर्व समस्यांसाठी चालू असलेल्या उपाययोजना ज्या कासवगतीने सुरू आहेत ते पाहता समस्या मोठी आणि समाधान छोटंच राहणार आहे.

विदर्भ-मराठवाडा आणि उर्वरित महाराष्ट्रातील ग्रामीण भागातील नेतेमंडळींनी स्थानिक विकासावर भर दिला तर आपसूक ही स्थलांतरं बरीच कमी होतील. चांगली विद्यापीठे, औद्योगिकीकरण, सिंचन पुरवठा या दोन तीन गोष्टींवरच अर्ध्या समस्यांचं निराकरण होऊ शकतं. तरीही पुण्याला येण्यापासून अडवलं कुणीही नाहीये, फक्त इथे येऊन जाणीवपूर्वक त्रास होऊ नये याची दक्षता घेतली तर नक्कीच चांगलय आणि अर्थात इथे येऊन, इथे समृद्ध होऊन पुणेकरांनाच नावं ठेवणं जर सोडलं तर पुणेकर सुद्धा बाहेरच्यांना पाण्यात पाहणं सोडतीलच अशी अपेक्षा करू.

विदर्भ-मराठवाडा किंवा एकंदरच उर्वरित महाराष्ट्रातील विस्थापितांना पाण्यात न पाहता जर पुण्यात लपलेले बांग्लादेशी घुसखोर बाहेर काढण्यावर पुणेकरांनी जोर लावला तर अधिक चांगलं होईल. पुण्याची ओळख आणि सांस्कृतिक समृद्धी आपलं समजून सर्वांनी जपुया आणि पुण्याचं सौंदर्य अबाधित राखुया.

आणि हो, “ण” आणि “न”, “भेटलं” आणि “मिळालं” मधला फरक आम्ही लक्षात घेऊ, चार-दोन आमचेही शब्द ‘बायजेवार’ रुजू द्या की इकडे!
