Some things are destined to be special. My trip to Hampi in July 2022 was one of them. Being a history and travel enthusiast, Hampi attracted me for almost a decade before I went there finally with my friends Satyajeet and Vyankatesh. The capital city of one of the greatest empires of medieval era is now in ruins, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Hampi attracts a lot of foreigners because of its astonishing architectural marvels. I had a greater reason to go, a hostility towards the last empire which preserved true Indian, Sanatani Hindu Culture through its architecture that still have some strong vibes. I wasn’t disappointed though.

History of Hampi

Hampi was the capital city of the Vijayanagara Empire. The Empire mostly covered modern-day Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Goa, Tamil Nadu, and the Kerala States of India. During the times of King Krishna Deva Raya, The empire was also extended till Udaygiri, present-day Udgir, dist. Latur in the state of Maharashtra. Basically, the empire was huge. Established in 1336 by King Harihara Raya I of the Dynasty Sangama, the Empire went on expanding against many challenges, especially during the times when the great Kakatiyas of Warangal (Present day Andhra Pradesh) and Yadavas of Devgiri (Present Day Maharashtra) were fallen to the invasions of Foreign Islamic Invaders. This was indeed an inspirational Kingdom where the Sangamas united all the Hindu powers of South India against the invaders, and risen above all like phoenix. A Portuguese traveler named Dominigo Paes visited Hampi in 1520 during Krishna Deva Raya’s rule. He described Hampi as the second largest city in the world after Beijing, as beautiful and large as Rome, and was so technologically advanced that the likes of which lacked in the Europe at that time. He also described the advanced and robust system of irrigation that allowed farmers to yield the best crops at the lowest cost. He described city as a market full of precious stones, gold, abundant vegetation, artificial lakes, nearly 3000 temples, educational hubs, and so on. Basically, Hampi was the city of dreams built and preserved by the people.

Not only in development and asthetics, Vijayanagara Empire had a powerful army and political wisdom too. Any invader would not even dare of meeting Vijayanagara soldiers on the battlefield, and those who dared enough failed miserably. The only thing that doomed Hampi, was a fraction of their own soldiers. The Muslim soldiers in Vijayanagara Army fought for the Islamic Bahamani Army when the Bahamanis attacked Vijayanagara. The Radical Islamic power was so obsessed with wiping out the cultural heritage of a Hindu empire that they spent years demolishing each establishment, temple, palace, and idol in Hampi. Eventually, they ran out of money and manpower but the architectural marvels are still there. If they look so beautiful and dope in ruins, imagine what it would look like if it weren’t brutally destroyed. Taj Mahal is overrated, real architectural wonders are still there in Hampi. A disclaimer, though some of you might label me as an Islamophobe, whatever I said is an official archeological record. In any circumstance, interpretation, or narration, I do not intend to disrespect any Islamic religious ideology at all. I am against the tyrants who destroyed my nation in the medieval era.

Best Spots in Hampi

You will find a plethora of blogs, articles, and YouTube videos regarding what to see in Hampi. I am briefing my experience about some places that I loved the most, and some travel advices as well.

1. The Virupaksha Temple

All the ancient temples in Hampi are under the authority of Department of Archeological Survey of India (ASI) except a few. The Virupaksha Temple is a grand religious establishment which is still under worship. There is an entry fee for the Grabha Griha (The closer look of God Virupaksha Mahadev) of ₹ 25/-. The temple is full of mesmerizing views. It is really hard to believe that the Shikhars (High temple towers) carved with thousands of idols and having altitude of around 100 feet are still standing without any depreciation, even after 600 years. The next wonderful thing you notice is when you enter the temple there is a Mandapam (banquet halls made for carrying out religious and cultural functions. Every pillar is carved with ancient Hindu sculptures. In fact, all these pillars convey pictorial representation of the

Dashavtar saga depicted as per Hindu mythology.

As you enter the Garbha Griha, there is an ancient idol of Mahadev Virupaksha in a calm, blissful environment. After exiting the Garbha Griha, there is a pool beyond a door and 3 adjacent temples. We need to climb down the stairs to visit the ancient pool. The entire view looks beautiful. In the temple premises, there are some other Hindu deities with separate Garbha Griha for each. The pillars look like a polished marble work, but they’re ancient.

2. Kadlekalu Ganesh

Located just beside Virupaksha Temple on a hilltop, Kadlekalu Ganesh is a 30 feet, monolithic Ganpati Idol in a temple. There are Dashavtar and other Hindu Sculptures carved on literally each temple pillar of Hampi. There is a mandapam in this temple too. Entire Hampi looks beautiful from this hilltop.

3. Hazar Rama Temple

Few kilometers from Virupaksha Temple, Hazar Rama Temple is perhaps the legit 8^th wonder. Entire epic of Uttar Ramayana (Ramayana’s later parts) is carved on stones in this temple. As you enter, there is a Yadnya Mandapa on the right, Kalyan Mandapa on the left and a grand Rama Temple in front of you. The pillars, ceiling, terrace palisades are so delicately carved that we literally feel two eyes are not enough to see this beauty at its full.

4. Underground Shiva Temple

This is one of the earliest establishments of Vijayanagara Empire. This temple was built by King Bukka Raya I in probably 14^th Century. The idol of Lord Shiva in this temple is known as Prasanna Virupaksha or Pataleshwar. For some reasons I don’t know, I felt a weird vibe here. The ruins of temple might have made me feel nervous but the feeling was same as when I saw the fictional city of Old Valyria in Game of Thrones.

5. Vijaya Vitthala Temple

This temple is the main reason why all the national and international tourists visit Hampi. Widely known for the famous Stone Chariott inside the premises, the temple is a real eye catcher. Built in 16^th century over 42 years by 2 Kings, the temple contained musical pillars in its main Sangeet Mandapam (Music Hall). The pillars were made of stone and sounded like musical instruments. It is said that on Mahanavami festival, there used to be a music program in this temple and the sound of musical pillars could be heard from 2 kilometers afar. On the other hand, the chariot made of stones depicts the chariot of Arjun in Mahabharat. Despite the efforts of demolishing, the entire Vijaya Vitthala Temple is still a beauty. The Garbha Griha of temple contained idols of God Vitthal and Goddess Rukmini together. Locals say the same idols have been relocated to Pandharpur’s famous Vitthal Mandir in Maharashtra. However, this theory is debatable. There are still some musical pillars in there, you can hear them sound like Tabla and Pakhwaj.

6. Kishkindha and Anjanedri

Though it lacks historical evidences, I strongly believe that the epic of Ramayana had happened for real. Speaking of wonders spoken in the story, I believe we, and especially the Indians exaggerate things too much. So much so that even real incidents seem fake. When it comes to the Vanar Sena, the army of Monkey-like species in Ramayana, I believe they were one of the highly evolved but not human kind of monkeys. Even until the 20^th Century, the North Sentinal Island in India had humans who were having tails. Therefore there is a good chance that the Vanar Sena, possibly the Neanderthal men existed in South India during the times of Ramayana.

The Kishkindha empire was the kingdom of Vanaras. They were strong, huge, spoke languages and possessed knowledge as well. Present day Hampi was the capital city of Kishkindha. Lord Hanuman was born here. The birthplace of Lord Hanuman is the Anjanedri Hill. There is a temple atop the hill for which one has to climb around 700 steps. Temple does not look like its ancient but there’s a stone in a glass shelf inside the temple. The stone was one of the millions that were used for building the Ram Setu. Interestingly, the stone is floating above the water even today.

From the hilltop, you can get a mesmerizing view of nature. For me, climbing this hill was the most divine experience ever.

There are other hills in Kishkindha as well, including those where Vanara King Bali and his brother Sugreev used to live.

7. Tungabhadra Dam, Hosapete

After all the ancient architectures you have seen and all the places you have visited, the Tungabhadra Dam feels like a delicious dessert after a feast. The River Tungabhadra flows through Hampi as well and there are Coracle Rides available for enjoyment. The river further goes to Hosapete, a nearby town and a huge dam is built on it in the British Era. The dam is surrounded by some mountains. Once you visit the entry gate of dam, a bus comes and takes you up to the light house of the dam. The dam looks immensely beautiful and huge from atop the Light House hill. Another bus then comes and takes you down to the dam wall. There are gardens all beside this wall and a closer look to the dam gives chills. Down the line, there are musical fountains, dashing cars and so many other recreational activities that make this place truly enjoyable.

Travel Guide for Hampi

1. How to Reach Hampi ?

If you are an international or even an Indian tourist not from Karnataka or nearby, traveling to Bengaluru by flight is the best option. From Bengaluru, there are a lot of trains available to Hosapete. Hosapete is a town located 12 KM from Hampi. From Hosapete, you can reach Hampi by 3 modes

1. City Bus from Hosapete Bus Station, available on 20-30 minutes frequency, costs around 20 ₹
2. Auto Rickshaw, costs ₹ 200-300 for 3 people
3. Cabs – Costs around ₹ 1000 for 4 people

If you are from Karnataka, Maharashtra, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala, Train to Hosapete is the best commute. You can also come by your own vehicle as Hosapete is situated on a junction of national Highways.

If you’re anywhere from the north of Maharashtra, flying to Bengaluru is the best option. Trains are also an option when time is not a constraint.

2. Where to stay?

The best advice can be to stay at Hosapete, as it has hospitals, chemist shops, good hotels, resorts, security, daily needs shops etc. Hampi is a small village and there are no hospitals or chemist shops. There is also a network connectivity issue in there. You can go to Hampi during day and return to Hosapete in the evening.

However, I liked staying at Hampi. I stayed at this beautiful guest house called “Temple View Guest House” in Hampi. It is located just 200 meters from Virupaksha Temple. The rooms were clean, every necessity was available including high-speed Wi-Fi. There is a restaurant at the ground floor run by Mr. Shambhu. Shambu makes delicious Dosa and Uttapam.  At night, the view of Virupaksha Temple from its terrace was dope. The cost of stay at this restaurant was very reasonable and the owner was very kind and welcoming. I would highly recommend you all to stay at this guest house.

There was one more restaurant right in front of this guest house called Taste of Brahmins. It was a home-style food restaurant. If you love South Indian food, this place is highly recommended. I loved the taste of Idli and Appam.

3. How to commute?

The best way to commute in Hampi is by hiring a cab. I highly recommend Travel MaaYa travel agency to book your cab. The fares are reasonable, their drivers are experienced & disciplined and cars are clean as well. My experience was pretty good with Travel MaaYa. Apart from cabs, you can hire scooters from Kamalapur, a village 4 KM from Hampi. You can also hire an auto rickshaw for 3 people. There are bicycles and mopeds available on rent in Hampi. The total area is around 30 KM. So it is best you consider bicycles and mopeds for a limited distance.

4. Sanitation and Other Services

There are public toilets available at every site in Hampi. However, best advised that you should get your stuff done at the hotel itself and then leave for exploration. There are a lot of Lemonade and Juice Stalls at every spot. Snacks, biscuits, and fruits are also easily available. There are some Italian and continental restaurants in Hampi too. So if you feel hungry or thirsty during exploration, do not worry at all.

One more thing to keep in mind, as there is a severe network connectivity issue in Hampi, it is best that you take enough cash and change with you to avoid the card and UPI payment. There are high chances that low-speed internet can disrupt the transaction.

5. When to go?

Though I visited Hampi amidst light rain showers and low rush in July and it was beautiful too, the best time to visit Hampi however, is during October to February as there is low heat and humidity in that period. A pleasant weather and lush greenery will be welcoming you.

6. Security and Other Issues

There are less than 1% chances that you’ll get robbed or attacked in Hampi. It is a completely police-protected area. The people in Hampi i.e. the hotel owners, shop owners, agents, tour guides, small vendors all are very genuine and they do not charge beyond limits. Their hospitality is commendable as well.

7. Overall cost

A day in Hampi will cost anywhere between ₹ 1500 to ₹ 3000 depending upon the level of accommodation and mode of commute. It may even cost ₹ 5000 to ₹ 10000 per day if you stay at a 3 star hotel or a resort. My total cost from Latur to Hampi and return was ₹ 5000 for 2 days, including train tickets and almost every penny I spent in the entire tour.

However, the hotel and guest house prices may increase during peak days.

रायरेश्वर,हे नाव तुम्ही शेवटचं कुठे ऐकलं होतं,काही आठवतं का? चौथीचा इतिहास? होय, हेच ते रायरेश्वर. शिवाजी महाराजांनी स्वराज्य स्थापनेची शपथ घेतली ती याच रायरेश्वराच्या साक्षीने. हे मंदिर प्रत्यक्ष पाहण्याची, अगदी डोंगर चढून, निसर्गाची मज्जा लुटत गिर्यारोहणाची संधी मला नुकतीच मिळाली ती ‘अनादि – एक विचार’ या पुण्यातील संस्थेमुळे. चला तर मग माझ्यासोबत रायरेश्वरच्या पठाराची शाब्दिक सैर करूया.

रायरेश्वर पठार

रायरेश्वर पठार हे सह्याद्रीच्या पर्वतरांगांमध्ये वसलेलं आहे, शिवरायांनी काबीज केलेले बरेच गड,किल्ले हे सह्याद्रीच्या पर्वतरांगांमध्ये आहेत,त्यामुळे सह्याद्री नेहमीच शिवप्रेमींना खुणावतं.

रायरेश्वर पठार पुण्यापासून ८४ किमी वर भोर तालुक्यात वसलेले आहे. कोराळे गावापासून अस्वल खिंडी पर्यंत पूर्व-पश्चिम पहुडलेल्या या पठाराचा विस्तार १६ किमी असून पठारावर असलेल्या सर्वोच्च टेकडीच्या माथ्यावरून उत्तरेला तुंग,तिकोना,लोहगड व विसापूर, प्रतापगड, केंजळगड,कमळगड,विचित्रगड व मकरंदगड हे किल्ले दिसू लागतात. पठारावर पाहण्यासारखे पांडवकालीन शिवमंदिर, पांडवकालीन लेणी, गोमुखकुंड आहे. हे पठार समुद्रसपाटीपासून १३३६ मिटर उंचीवर आहे. रायरेश्वर ला जाण्यासाठीचा मार्ग हा भोर तालुक्यातूनच जातो. भोर वरून रायरेश्वरला दोन मार्गांनी जाता येतं.पहिला मार्ग टीटे धरण मार्गे आंबवडे गावातून जातो, तर दुसरा मार्ग हा रायरी गावातून जातो.

सुरुवातीची जुळवाजुळव

ट्रेक ला जाण्याचा निर्णय तसा माझ्यासाठी सोपा नव्हता, ट्रेक या शब्दाचा आणि माझा दूरदूरचा संबंध नव्हता असं म्हणायला हरकत नाही. याची सुरुवात झाली, जेव्हा माझा मित्र DPM  म्हणजेच ज्ञानेश याने मला ट्रेक ला येण्याबाबतीत विचारले. माझी मनस्थिती अगदी द्विधा झालेली. एकीकडे तर ट्रेकिंग ला जाण्याची ईच्छातर खूप, पण त्याच वेळी धाकधूक ही होती की एकतर ट्रेकिंग बाबतीत मी नवखी आणि त्यात उंचीची भीती. परंतु रायरेश्वर पठार हे जास्ती उंच नाहीये आणि चढाईलाही तितकेसे अवघड नाहीये, अशी ग्वाही  जेव्हा ज्ञानेशने दिली,तेव्हा मी मनाचा हिय्या करून ट्रेक ला जाण्याचा निर्णय घेतला. ट्रेकिंग चा पहिलाच अनुभव, त्यामुळे सगळी तयारी साग्रसंगीत, ट्रेकिंग शुज पासून कॅप पर्यंत! लातूर वरून ट्रेकिंग ला जाणारी तशी मी काही एकटी नव्हते. तरीही अनेक आढेवेढे घेत ट्रेक ला जाण्याचा निर्णय झाला. लातूर वरून ट्रेक ला जाणारे आम्ही तिघे होतो. मी,ऋतुजा आणि साई. आमची थोडीशी तारेवरची कसरत होणार होती हे नक्कीच. कारण ट्रेक ची सुरुवात पुण्यातील केसरी वाडा येथून होणार आणि आम्ही रात्री च्या ट्रेन ने लातूर वरून निघून नंतर ट्रेक गाठणार. तर आमची ट्रेकिंग ची सुरुवात येथूनच झाली अस म्हणायला हरकत नाही, पण चलो…कोई नही! तारांबळ नाही उडाली तर तो ट्रेक कसला?

ट्रेकचा दिवस

आम्ही आमचा लवाजमा घेऊन अखेर केसरीवाडा ला पोचलो आणि आमच्या प्रवासाला सुरुवात झाली. ट्रेक मध्ये आम्ही तिघे वगळता बाकी मंडळी पुण्याचीच. अमेय, अभिषेक, आरती, अवंती, ज्ञानेश, चैत्रा….. अशी एकूण आम्ही १७ जण ६ मुली आणि ११ मुले. तशी आमची कोणाशीच साधी तोंडओळख हि नव्हती परंतु हळूहळू जशी जशी प्रवासाला सुरुवात झाली आम्ही त्यांच्यातलेच एक झालो. आम्ही भोरला यथेच्छ न्याहारी करून रायरेश्वर कडे प्रस्थान केलं. हा मार्ग घाट रस्ता असल्यामुळे थोडासा कठीणच, वाट बरीच नागमोडी. आमच्या अंताक्षरी च्या गोंधळात काही जाणवले नाही,पण एखादे वळण काळजाचा ठोका चुकवल्याशिवाय राहत नाही. भोर च्या  थोडं अलीकडे लागलेला ‘नेकलेस पॉईंट. धरणीआईच्या गळ्यातील निसर्गाने ओवलेली पोत भासावी अश्या आकाराची ही वेळवंडी नदी. गमतीजमती करत,प्रवासाची मजा घेत,गाणी म्हणत, आम्ही डोंगराच्या पायथ्याशी पोहोचलो, तिथे एकमेकांची ओळख झाली आणि आमची वानरसेना सज्ज झाली चढाई ला. तसा डोंगर एक तासात चढून होण्यासारखा, सराईतपणे चढणारे पुढे निघून गेले आणि आम्ही नवखे थोडेशे मागे राहिलो,परंतु आमच्या सोबतीला आरती, अभिषेक, ओंकार, ज्ञानेश, मोनिका, मन्मथ हे सगळे होतेच सर्व अगदी आमच्या सोबतीलाच होते. चढत चढत जेव्हा मी पायऱ्यापाशी आले,तेव्हा वरती पाहिल्यावर थोडसं गरगरायला झालं,पण आता वरती पाहायचाच नाही,फक्त जी पायरी समोर आहे तिच्याकडेच पहायचं,हा आयुष्याला लागू होणारा नियम मी पाळायच ठरवलं.  थोडीशी उन्हाची काहिली जाणवत होती पण जसे आम्ही थोड उंचावर गेलो तसा गार रानवारा शीळ घालत आमच्या अंगाखान्द्याशी खेळू लागला,तसा सगळा थकवा कुठच्याकुठे पळून गेला, एकदम मस्त वाटल आणि आम्ही पठारावर पोहोचलो. तिथे आमचे लक्ष वेधून घेतले ते तिथल्या माकडांनी व त्यांच्या मर्कटलीलांनी. ही सर्व माकडे तहान-भुकेने व्याकुळलेली दिसत होती. सह्याद्रीचा हा स्वर्ग खरं पाहता या जनावरांचाच! वाघ, सिंह, कोल्हे, मोर आणि असे कैक प्रकारचे प्राणी इथे वास्तव्य करत असत मात्र आज त्यांचं अस्तित्व अगदी संपुष्टात आल्यासारखं आहे. स्वतः शिवाजी महाराज अनेक पत्रांमध्ये जंगली श्वापदांचा विनाकारण जीव घेऊ नका अशी सक्त ताकीद देताना आढळतात!

रायरेश्वराच्या पठाराच्या वरतून दरीचे दृश्य अगदी विहंगम वाटत होते. हे  दृश्य कॅमेऱ्यामध्ये साठवुन घेण्याचा केविलवाणा प्रयत्न सुरु झाला. काही वेळाने पठारावरचं फोटो सेशन संपवून आम्ही रायरेश्वरच्या मंदिराकडे मोर्चा वळवला.

रायरेश्वराचा इतिहास आणि ऐतिहासिक शपथविधी 

रायरेश्वराचं नाव इतिहासाच्या सुवर्णपानांवर कोरलं गेलं ते शिवरायांच्या शपथविधीमुळे. या घटनेमुळेच रायरेश्वराला अनन्यसाधारण महत्व प्राप्त झाले.

      २६ एप्रिल १६४५ हाच तो सोनेरी दिवस ज्या दिवशी हिंदवी स्वराज्याची मुहूर्तमेढ रोवली गेली. सोळा वर्षांच्या बालशिवरायांनी बारा मावळातील सवंगडी – कान्होजी जेधे, बाजी पासलकर, तानाजी मालुसरे, येसाजी कंक, सूर्याजी काकडे, बापुजी मुद्गल, यांच्या सोबतीने स्वराज्य स्थापनेची शपथ घेतली. तर ही घटना एका रात्रीत घडलेली नाहीये तर यामागे बराच इतिहास आहे.

रायरेश्वरास पूर्वी रोहिरेश्वर या नावाने सुद्धा ओळखले जात असे. १६४२ साली दादाजी नरस प्रभू यांनी यांनी एक गाव रायरेश्वर मंदिरास पूजेसाठी नेमून दिले होते व तेथे पुजारीही नेमला होता मात्र आदिलशाहास हि बातमी समजल्यावर आपल्या फतव्याविरोधात ही गोष्ट झाल्याचा राग येऊन त्याने तेथील शहाजी महाराजांचे मुतालिक दादोजी कोंडदेव यांना बडतर्फ केले व त्यांच्या जागी घोरपडे यांना सुभेदारी दिली. पुढे आदिलशहा व शहाजी महाराज यांच्यात समेट झाल्यावर दादोजी कोंडदेव यांना पुन्हा एकदा कोंढाण्याची सुभेदारी प्राप्त झाली.

यावेळी मावळ प्रांताचे प्रमुख देशमुख असलेले कान्होजी जेधे यांना शहाजी महाराजांनी शिवाजीराजांसोबत बंगळूरहून पाठवले होते शिवाजी महाराजांची अगदी सुरुवातीस साथ देणाऱ्यांमध्ये कान्होजी जेधे, बाजी पासलकर व त्यांचे बालपणीचे सवंगडी तानाजी मालुसरे हे होते. हळू हळू प्रांतातील मावळे शिवरायांच्या छत्राखाली एकत्र येऊ लागले. पावसाळ्यात चार महिने शेती करणारे मावळे पावसाळा झाल्यावर स्वराज्य निर्माणार्थ शस्त्र हाती घेऊ लागले. बघता बघता हजार बाराशे मावळे तयार झाले व स्वराज्याच्या पहिल्या मोहिमेचा बेत तयार झाला व तो होता रोहीड खोरे नावाचे मावळ स्वराज्यात सामील करून घेण्याचा.

यावेळी रोहीड खोऱ्याचे अधिकारी दादाजी नरस प्रभू शिवरायांना अनुकूल झाले व स्वराज्याच्या संकल्पाची सुरुवात रोहीड खोऱ्याचे दैवत असलेल्या रायरेश्वराच्या साक्षीने घेण्यासाठी शिवरायांच्या नेतृत्वात सर्व मावळे रायरेश्वराच्या दिशेने हातात ढाल तलवारी घेऊन हर हर महादेव असा जयघोष करीत चालू लागले. सर्व मावळ्यांना घेऊन महाराजांनी रायरेश्वाराच्या गाभाऱ्यात प्रवेश केला व रायरेश्वराच्या साक्षीने सर्वांनी स्वराज्य निर्मितीचा अभूतपूर्व संकल्प केला.

“काय कमी रायरेश्वरा तव

असल्यावर आधार

उचलतो म्हणुनी बेलभंडार!”

हे रायरेश्वराचे मंदिर पठारावर स्थित आहे. हे मुळ मंदिर खूप प्राचीन दगडी आहे, परंतु १८ व्या शतकात त्याची पुनर्बांधणी करण्यात आली. आम्ही जेव्हा आत मंदिरात गेलो तेव्हा एक वेगळ्याच प्रकारची नीरव शांतता जाणवली आणि मुळ दगडी बांधकाम असल्यामुळे खूप थंडगार वाटले, अगदी A.C मधे बसल्यासारखं. मंदिराच्या मूळ गाभार्यात स्वयंभू असे शिवलिंग होते. तिथेच मागच्या बाजूला शिवाजी महाराजांचे त्यांच्या मावळ्यासोबत शपथ घेतानाचे छायाचित्र आहे.हे मंदिर पांडवकालीन आहे असे म्हंटले जाते. हे मंदिर म्हणजेच स्वराज्याचे जन्मस्थान असे म्हंटले तरी वावगे ठरणार नाही.या मंदिराला ऐतेहासिक वारसा लाभलेला आहे.पठारावर रायरेश्वर मंदिराव्यतिरिक्त पांडव लेण्या हि आहेत.तर मंदिराचे दर्शन वगेरे घेऊन  आम्ही  तिकडेच थोडसं वेळ घालवला. गडकिल्ले म्हणजे साक्षात तीर्थक्षेत्र मानणाऱ्या अभिषेक ने रायरेश्वर च्या इतिहासाबद्दल थोडी माहिती दिली. एव्हाना आम्हाला चांगलीच भूक लागलेली,आम्ही पठारावर मस्त जेवण केले, आणि गड उतरायला सुरुवात केली. उतरत असताना आम्हाला पाण्याचा एक नैसर्गिक स्त्रोत दिसला, तेच गोमुखकुंड. filtered water ला ही लाजवेल इतकं नितळ आणि मधुर पाणी. पठार उतरताना चा अनुभव वेगळाच होता ,चढताना जेवढी दमछाक झाली नाही तेवढी उतरताना जाणवली,पाय अगदी उचलतच नव्हते, चेहरा तर अगदी लाल कोकंबासारखा झालेला.  

परतीचा प्रवास

परतताना आंबवडे ला ब्रिटीशकालीन “झुलता पूल” (Jijasaheb Suspension Bridge) पाहिला,तसेच नागेश्वर मंदिर ही पाहिले. कुतुहलाची गोष्ट आहे, ज्या निरव शांततेचा अनुभव रायरेश्वराच्या मंदिरात आला अगदी तसाच नागेश्वर मंदिरात हि आला. बराच वेळ तिथून निघावेसेच वाटले नाही.शेवटी निघणे भाग होते. परतीचा प्रवास तितकाच मजेदार होता,गाडी मध्ये बराच कल्ला केला, माहित नाही अश्यावेळी उत्साह कुठून संचारतो, पण एकूणच धमाल आली. सायंकाळी 8 वाजता आम्ही  केसरी वाडा ला परतलो, सगळे जिकडे तिकडे पांगले, अर्थातच परत दुसरीकडे ट्रेक ला जाऊ, हे आश्वासन देऊनच!

व्यक्ती आणि वल्ली

ट्रेक मधील सर्वात मजेदार भाग म्हणजे ‘अंताक्षरी’. खरंतर आमच्यात सुरवातीला थोडासा “ऑकवर्डनेस” होता, तो नाहीसा झाला अंताक्षरी मुळेच. गाण्यांनी आमच्या मध्ये एक वेगळाच दुवा निर्माण केला, आणि बऱ्याच जणांची ओळख झाली, जसे कि उत्साहाचा अखंड उर्जास्त्रोत म्हणावी अशी आरती. तसं पाहायला गेला तर सगळेच जण म्हणजे अमेय, अभिषेक, अवंती, आम्हाला ट्रेक मध्ये सामावून घेत होते .अवंती, अतिशय गोड असं व्यक्तिमत्व,मोठेपणाचा थोडा हि लवलेश तिच्या चेहऱ्यावर नव्हता. मनसोक्त आणि बेफिकीर चैत्रा, “मी तुला या आधी कुठेतरी पाहिलंय” असं म्हणणारा संकेत, ज्याच्याशी बोलताना ओळखीची पण गरज पडली नाही असा शांत आणि कविमनाचा प्रथमेश, अंताक्षरी प्रकारात बेताज बेगम म्हणावी अशी बोल्ड,बिनधास्त मोनिका, सतत मला motivate करणारा ज्ञानेश, ज्याच्या मुळे मी खरतर या ट्रेक चा भाग बनू शकले आणि आणखीन बरेच जण..! खरतर या सर्वांमुळे हि ट्रेक आणखी लक्षात राहिली.अजून एक मजेशीर गोष्ट म्हणजे सर्वांनी परतताना केलेला धमाल नाच..; अगदी बिनधास्त कुठलीही भीडभाड न बाळगता. माझ्या आयुष्यातील पहिलावहिला ट्रेक खरंच खूप सुंदर झाला तो या सर्वांमुळेच.

अनादी बद्दल थोडसं….

आजकालची तरुण पिढी खूप स्वार्थी आहे,स्वतःच्या पलीकडे त्यांना काही दिसतच नाही. सामाजिक भान जिथे फक्त भाषण आणि राजकारण बनून राहिलंय अश्या जमान्यात काही अवलिया, कॉलेजला जाणारे, सीए वगैरे सारखे अवघड कोर्सेस करणारे पुणेरी मुलं-मुली २०१५ मध्ये एकत्र येतात आणि “डेव्हलप, इंटिग्रेट, सर्व्ह” हे ध्येय घेऊन बनवतात अनादी – एक विचार. अमेय लिमये,ओंकार साबणे,श्रद्धा पोंक्षे आणि इतर काही जण अश्या माझ्याच वयाच्या या सर्वांनी एकत्र येऊन हि संस्था चालू केली. आज या संस्थेचे १०० सदस्य आहेत. “स्वराविष्कार” सारखे शास्त्रीय संगीताचे मोठे कार्यक्रम घेणे असो, “पिक-अ-बुक मधून वाचनाचा छंद जोपासनं असो किंवा दर विकेंड ला सकाळी टेकड्यांवरती झाडांची निगा राखण्यासाठी जाणं असो, कुठल्याही वैयक्तिक फायद्याशिवाय केवळ मनापासून ही विधायक कामं करण्यासाठी “अनादी” असणाऱ्या दैवी पॉझिटीव्ह शक्तीचा वाहता झरा मनात हवा आणि अनादी मधल्या सर्वांमध्ये ते मला जाणवलं! या ट्रेक चं नियोजनही त्यांनी अगदी चोख केलेलं, सतत सगळे leaders सगळे सोबत आहेत कि नाही, याची खबरदारी घेत होते.कोणी नवीन असेल तर त्याची पुरेपूर काळजी घेत होते आणि मदत करत होते.

 एकंदरच हा ट्रेक आणि अनादी संस्था माझ्यासाठी एक अविस्मरणीय अनुभव होता.

“लातूर मधी हाव व्हय, चल की नाश्त्याला! कस्लाईस बे लातूर मधी राहून आणखी कृष्णा वर इडली खाय नाहीस का? ही लातुराय पिल्लू…इथल्या साऊथ इंडियन ला प्रत्यक्ष साऊथ इंडियात चॅलेंज नाही भावड्या!”

ही माझा मित्र व्यंकटेश ची नाश्त्याला बोलावण्याची पद्धत. असं नाही बरं का की केवळ व्यंकटेश लातूरच्या साऊथ इंडियन बद्दल इतकं मीठ मसाला लावून सांगतोय, हे प्रत्येक लातूरकराचं ठाम मत आहे. 2013 ते 2016 आणि 2019 पासून आजपर्यंत लातुरात माझी साडेचार-पाच वर्षे गेलीत. आजवर लातूरकरांचं हे लातूरच्या दाक्षिणात्य पदार्थांवरचं अमर्याद प्रेम मला समजलेलं नाही. नाही, एक गोष्ट स्पष्टच सांगतो, मी स्वतः दक्षिणेत हैद्राबाद, विजयवाडा, नेल्लोर, तिरुपती, चेन्नई, वारंगल, बंगळुरू, बिदर इत्यादी शहरांमध्ये प्रत्यक्ष जाऊन साऊथ इंडियन खाल्लेलं आहे आणि तरीही हे माझं ठाम मत आहे की लातूरच्या साऊथ इंडियन ला प्रत्यक्ष साऊथ इंडियात सुद्धा चॅलेंज नाही! लातूरच्या एकूणच नाश्ता संस्कृतीचा, आणि त्यात प्रामुख्याने असणाऱ्या दाक्षिणात्य पदार्थांचा आता सखोल आढावा घेऊया.

लातूरच्या साऊथ इंडियन फूड चं वेगळेपण

असं काय वेगळं असतं लातूरच्या साऊथ इंडियन मध्ये? तर बेसिक इडली डोसा सगळीकडे असतं तसच परंतु सर्व्हिंग मध्ये फरक आहे. मूळ दाक्षिणात्य इडली सोबत तुम्हाला ओल्या खोबऱ्याची चटणी मिळेल मात्र लातुरात तीच चटणी अस्सल मराठी चवीची होऊन जाते, म्हणजे शेंगदाण्याची. पण ही चटणी भाकरी सोबत खातो तशी नसते, अशी चटणी केवळ लातुरातच मिळते. या व्यतिरिक्त इथल्या सांभार आणि इडली डोसा बनवण्याच्या पद्धतीमध्ये सुद्धा एक वेगळंच रसायन आहे.

लातूर हा महाराष्ट्र-कर्नाटक सीमेवरचा जिल्हा असल्यामुळे लातूर शहरात मोठ्या प्रमाणावर मूळचे कर्नाटकी असणारे लिंगायत व वीरशैव समाजाचे लोक पूर्वीपासून राहतात. हा समाज अनेक पिढ्यांपासून मराठी व कर्नाटकी चवींचं मिश्रण त्यांच्या आहारामध्ये घेत आलाय. त्यामुळे यातले बरेच लोक लातुरात दाक्षिणात्य पदार्थ त्यांच्या खास शैलीत बनवून लातूरकरांच्या मनात घर करतात. लातूरच्या चवीतला मराठवाडी ठसका आणि कर्नाटकी आंबूसपणा याचा एक सुरेख संगम होऊन इथले दाक्षिणात्य पदार्थ झकास बनतात. या व्यतिरिक्त लातूरमध्ये पोहे, निलंगा राईस आणि उपमा फ्राय हे नॉन साऊथ इंडियन फूड सुद्धा अत्यंत जबरदस्त मिळतात.

चला तर मग, लातूरच्या काही सुप्रसिद्ध साऊथ इंडियन रेस्टोरंट्स ची शाब्दिक सैर करूया.

शिदोरे इडली गृह

औसा रोडवर नंदी स्टॉप पासून अष्टविनायक मंदिराच्या दिशेने थोडसं आत शिरताच आत साधारण 200 मीटर अंतरावर आहे अप्पा शिदोरे यांचं जुनं-जाणतं शिदोरे इडली गृह. आसपास ट्युशन्स, हॉस्टेल्स आणि पीजी रूम्स ची भाऊगर्दी असल्याने “शिदोरे” मध्ये पीक अवर्स वर प्रचंड वेटिंग वगैरे असते; तरीही एक गोष्ट जी इथं कितीही गर्दीत असाल तरी लगेच मिळते आणि जी लातुरात यांच्याइतकं चांगलं कुणीही बनवत नाही, ते म्हणजे पोहे. कांद्यापोह्यांवर मघाशी उल्लेख केला ती शेंगदाण्याची ओली चटणी (सफेद व तांबडी दोन्ही प्रकारची) ओतून जेव्हा हे पोहे तुमच्या समोर येतात तेव्हा कधी संपतात हे तुम्हालाही कळणार नाही. याव्यतिरिक्त शिदोरे मध्ये मला विशेष आवडतं ते म्हणजे मसाला डोसा आणि चीज उत्तप्पा. चटणी वरती उल्लेख केला त्याच प्रकारची असली तरीही यांच्या चटणीला एक मिठास छटा आहे. शिवाय अँबियन्स चं म्हणाल तर नुकतंच रिनोव्हेट केलेलं हॉटेल आणि नेहमी श्रवणीय अश्या गाण्यांची प्लेलिस्ट असल्याने वातावरण चांगलंच “हॅपनिंग” असतं. शक्यतो कॉलेजचे तरुण मुलं-मुली शिदोरेवरच हँग आउट करणं पसंत करतात. पोहे आणि डोसा याव्यतिरिक्त अत्यंत चविष्ट अशी लस्सीदेखील येथे मिळते. यांची लातुरातच अंबाजोगाई रोड ला आणखी एक शाखा आहे. शिदोरे इडली गृह ला मिळतायत दहापैकी साडे आठ मार्क्स. (8.5/10)

कृष्णा इडली गृह

लातूरचा अभिमान असणारं गंजगोलाई मार्केट आणि त्यातल्या 64 गल्ल्यांच्या भूल-भुलैया मध्ये आहे कृष्णा इडली गृह. एक प्लेट इडली मध्ये किती वेळा चटणी घ्यायची याचे सर्व रेकॉर्ड तुम्ही कृष्णावरच मोडाल. लातूरमधील सर्वात चविष्ट इडली, सर्वात चविष्ट सांभार आणि सर्वात चविष्ट चटणी या सर्वांचा बहुमान कृष्णा इडली गृह ला जातोय. इडली व्यतिरिक्त इथे वडा सांभार देखील अत्यन्त सुरेख मिळतं. कृष्णा इडली ला मिळतायत दहापैकी नऊ मार्क्स! तुळजाई इडली गृह

 लातूरच्या प्रमुख साऊथ इंडियन रेस्टोरंट्स मध्ये तुळजाई अगदी नकळत व अत्यंत झपाट्याने प्रसिद्ध झालं. एके काळी दयानंद कॉलेज जवळ एक छोटंसं रेस्टॉरंट बघता बघता प्राईम लोकेशन वर तीन-तीन शाखांपर्यंत कधी पोचलं कळलंच नाही, आणि कारणंही तशीच आहेत. सांभार-चटणी तर अर्थात अत्यन्त जबरदस्त मिळतातच, शिवाय इथल्या इडली ला जी खास चव आहे ती अतुल्य आहे. इथली इडली जिभेवर अक्षरशः विरघळते इतकी मऊसूत आणि चविष्ट. इथे इतर पदार्थांमध्ये साबुदाण्याची खिचडी, उपमा आणि डोसा सुद्धा छान मिळतं. “तुळजाई” च्या एकूण तीन शाखा आहेत. एक दयानंद कॉलेज जवळ खाडगाव रोड ला, एक अंबाजोगाई रोड ला “रिलायन्स लातूर पॅटर्न” समोर आणि एक जुन्या रेल्वेलाईन वरील रस्त्यावर विश्व ट्रॅव्हल्स च्या ऑफिस च्या बाजूस. सदैव गर्दी असून देखील वेळेत ऑर्डर मिळते हे वैशिष्ट्य. तुळजाई ला मिळतायत दहापैकी आठ गुण! (8/10)

सुर्या/सुर्या दक्षिण इडली गृह

लातूरमधील सर्वात जास्त सुप्रसिद्ध आणि नावाजलेलं असं कुठलं साऊथ इंडियन रेस्टॉरंट असेल तर ते म्हणजे सुर्या. इडली, दोसा, कट दोसा, उपमा फ्राय, साबुदाणा खिचडी सगळंच इतकं चविष्ट मिळतं इथे की नाश्ताच काय, दुपारचं जेवणही भागून जाईल इतकं खाल. तरीही स्पेशालिटी मध्ये उपमा फ्राय आणि कट दोसा सर्वात चविष्ट म्हणावं. झोमॅटो वर टॉपच्या रेस्टोरंट्स मध्ये असण्यापासून ते एक किलोमीटर पेक्षाही कमी अंतरात दोन कायम गर्दीच्या शाखा असेपर्यंत ‘सूर्या’चा दबदबा गेल्या सात-आठ वर्षांपासून कायम आहे. सुर्या च्या एकूण तीन शाखा आहेत. गंजगोलाई मध्ये सुर्या, औसा रोड वर खर्डेकर स्टॉप ला सुर्या दक्षिण 2.0 आणि औसा रोडवरच आदर्श गेटच्या जवळ सुर्या दक्षिण. सुर्या इडली गृह ला मिळत आहेत दहापैकी साडेनऊ स्टार (9.5/10).

अभिमान आमच्या इडली-चटणीचा

प्रत्येक शहराचं स्वतःचं फूड कल्चर असतं आणि हल्ली त्यावरून बऱ्यापैकी स्टीरिओटाइपिंग सुद्धा होतं. आमच्या फूड कल्चर मध्ये इडली इतकी प्रीडॉमीनंट आहे याचा आम्हा लातूरकरांस प्रचंड अभिमान आहे. बाहेरचं खाल्लं तरी पोटात भरमसाठ मैदा आणि अजिनोमोटो तरी जाऊ देत नाहीत आम्ही. त्यामुळे गेल्या वीस एक वर्षात बाहेरचं खाणं समाजात इतकं वाढलेलं असताना आमचं साऊथ इंडियन वरचं प्रेम म्हणजे खरं तर सेव्हिंग ग्रेस. पुण्याकडे बाकरवडी आणि मिसळ असेल, मुंबईकडे वडापाव आणि पावभाजी असेल तर आम्हालाही लातुरी इडली चटणीचा जाज्वल्य अभिमान आहेच.

काही सन्माननीय उल्लेख

 या व्यतिरिक्त औसा रोडवरच आप्पा इडली गृह, अंबाजोगाई रोड वर गुरुकृपा इडली गृह, खाडगाव रोड वर अक्षय इडली गृह, गोलाईतील सुर्या रीट्रीट ही सगळी सुद्धा काही चांगली साऊथ इंडियन रेस्टोरंट्स आहेत. एकंदरच लातुरात अनेक ठिकाणी कमीअधिक फरकामध्ये नाश्त्याचे पदार्थ छान मिळतात आणि त्यामुळेच कधी लातूरला आलात आणि तुमच्या लातूरकर मित्राने “नाश्त्याला येउललास का” म्हंटल्यावर अजिबात आढेवेढे न घेता “हां येउललाव की” म्हणायचं आणि अस्सल लातुरी चवीचा आस्वाद घ्यायचा.

The location of the Deccan Gymkhana area is the most fascinating thing about it. It is the connection between the old Peths and the southwestern suburbs such as Kothrud, Erandwane, etc. Well, it’s one of the most costly areas for real estate but even if you propose to rent an apartment or take a P.G. there, it’s the matter of luck. I’ve been lucky in the year 2016-17 when I got to live there in this hostel. The MM Boys’ Hostel.

Well the geography of this area is very interesting. Named after the old sports club Deccan Gymkhana, there are many sub-colonies in this area itself but all are largely called Deccan area. Starts off at the Khanduji Baba Chowk or popularly known as the Deccan Corner, the area contains Prabhat Road, Ferguson College Road, Bhandarkar Road, Apte Road, Paranjape Road, Janglee Maharaj Road etc. Some of the oldest and most famous landmarks here are Chitale’s sweets shop, Cafe Goodluck, Vaishali Restaurant, The Fergusson Campus with its 3-4 gates, Dnyaneshwar Paduka Chowk, Sambhaji Garden, Balgandharva Theatre, Deccan Bus Stop, Kamala Nehru Park, The BMCC College, The Gokhale University, The MMCC Campus, the British library etc etc. Each of these areas are amongst the cleanest areas I’ve ever seen in Pune.

What makes Pune-04 special is its elite environment. Perhaps the only area where you can find 2 big sports clubs with their moderately bigger grounds, One giant educational institute with a dozen of colleges inside, a complete University exclusively for economics, one of the tier 1 commerce colleges in India, yet another commerce college just beside, office of Times of India, office of Registrar of Companies and a small hill amidst of all these. Pune is 9th largest metro city in India and 2nd largest in the state of Maharashtra. For a city like this, the entire area of Deccan Gymkhana is indeed a paradise. Checkout the pictures below.

During my days in Pune-04 in the MM Hostel, I used to go to a mess located in the Gokhale Deemed University. That mess was very famous and thus, always crowded by students of all the 3 institutes nearby. I could never be a part of Fergusson college or BMCC but I was friends with many of the alumni of those colleges. They’d always meet me in that mess and we’d discuss various stuff while having lunch or dinner. Just by being in Pune-04 circle, you gain a hell lot of knowledge that you get nowhere else. The entire downhill of Hanuman Tekadi still has the blessings of Lokmanya Tilak and G K Gokhale.

One more fascinating thing about Pune 04 is that the locations of Hanuman Tekadi, BMCC and Gokhale University are an attraction for Marathi film industry. I’ve frequently seen the shootings of some films with my own eyes. It’s even more fascinating when the scenes you watched getting shot actually appear in the movie when released. Faster Fene, Deva, Boyz, YZ, Mulshi Pattern, Ti Sadhya Kay Karte are some of those movies. It’s only then I came to know that a 1 minute movie scene may take about 4 hours to shoot. Before going to the most beautiful thing about Pune-04, here’s a brief about FC Road or the Fergusson College Road. You get all the things here, from cheapest to the costliest. There’s a fashion street called Hong Kong Lane connecting both JM and FC Roads. While FC Road is full of youth rush and street hawkers, the parallel opposite one way JM Road is full of elite, greenery and brand showrooms. Honestly the whole JM Road is a garden. FC Road and JM Road are one of the most famous roaming destinations in Pune for sure, but the underrated spot in Pune-04 is largely out of sight, and thank God it is so, the Hanuman Tekadi (Hill).

Located just beyond the DES or Ferguson campus, the hill is about 400-500 meters high above the sea level. Local senior citizens come here every morning and evening for exercise, I used to go there and relax. Many youngsters do the same as well. There’s some magic in the air of Hanuman Tekadi. I’m desparately craving to visit it again, over and over again. Checkout the pictures below. Scenery from the hill and scenery on the hill.

Elite landmarks, unique locations, immense greenery, purest air quality and one of the most beautiful residential areas in the city… Deccan Gymkhana or Pune-04 is indeed a paradise. I pray to the God that I get one more chance to live in Pune-04.

Coming to the point, Ramayan versus Mahabharat. As stories, they’re the best literatures ever written. Still, Mahabharat stands a little higher as it is more complex, having more grey characters with darker stories and gives a religious stronghold of Bhagwad Geeta. Thus, as an epic, Mahabharat is a bit greater than Ramayan.

Now comparing the legendary and record breaking TV serials by Doordarshan. These serials were first aired in 1987-1990 (collectively). Roads used to be empty on every Sunday afternoon, buses wouldn’t leave the stations unless the episode ends. These were re-telecasted on Doordarshan and DD Bharati in this period of lockdown. I watched them both, without missing a single episode. While Ramayan managed to break all worldwide records surpassing Game of Thrones, Mahabharat also scored a good amout of TRP but couldn’t break records. A lot of my relatives and friends watched Ramayan with all their devotion and interest but could barely even understand the story of Mahabharat. Not only that but this Mahabharat directed by B R Chopra was telecasted several times after 1989 on different channels, is also a reason why Mahabharat scored less TRP.

Comparing the direction of the story, which is a big factor why Mahabharat wins, is obviously better in case of Mahabharat. In Ramayan, the focus is on only few characters, while Mahabharat justified every character by giving them apt screentime and dialogues. In 78 episodes, Ramayan was completed and the story was evenly spread over the series. Mahabharat contained 94 episodes and the story, not just evenly but was appropriately completed considering all the pre-post aspects. Cinematography and camera angles are better in Mahabharat while background music was better in Ramayan. Important scenes were very good in both the serials such as abduction of Seeta and Cheerharan (Sexual Harrasment) of Draupadi.

In case of acting by prominent characters, Ramayan is again less scoring. While Arun Govil and Sunil Lehri portrayed Shri Ram and Lakshman too good, Sita’s acting was an absolute disaster, which was hidden by the actor Deepika’s perfect Seeta look alike face. Ravan played by Arvind Trivedi was the best. Swapnil and Mayuresh played Kush and Lav and they did a very good job. Bharat played by Sanjay Jog was also close to perfect. Hanuman played by Dara Singh was average. Rest all characters were loose.

In Mahabharat, there are a lot of characters, at least 100 and all of them being prominent. The best portrayal was by Nitish Bhardwaj who played the role of Krishna. Second best being Bheeshm played by Mukesh Khanna. Third best were Duryodhan played by Puneet Issar and Karna played by Pankaj Dheer. Arjun played by Feroz Khan, Kunti played by Nazneen, Bheem played by Praveen Kumar, Draupadi played by Roopa Ganguly and many to list more, were very good. The only prominent character over acted was Shakuni, played by Gufi Paintal.

Music is the only case where Ramayan is much better than Mahabharat. Very good use of music at war scenes. While title tracks of both the serials are unmatchable, Ramayan gives more music in between as well.

Talking about special effects and technicality of war scenes, both serials are very poor, still Mahabharat was better. There were a lot elephants and cavalry in Mahabharat war than Ramayan war. The war sequences were also better.

Overall, the result is not hidden. Mahabharat is a clear winner in this case. Ramayan still remains much entertaining and engaging show though

कोरोनाचे संकट यात खूप नवी उदाहरणे देत आहे. प्रत्येकजण आपापल्या धर्माचा प्रचार करतोय आणि पटवून सांगायचा प्रयत्न करतोय की कसा धर्मातच कोरोनाच्या संकटाचा सामना करण्याची ताकद आहे. हे सर्व अर्थात चूकच. अंधश्रद्धा बाळगणे, वैज्ञानिक दृष्टीकोन नसणे हे खरेतर अशिक्षितपणाचे लक्षण. पण म्हणून स्वतः फार जास्त शिक्षित असल्याचा आव आणणारे नास्तिक काही वेगळे नाहीत.

सर्वप्रथम तर नास्तिकांनो तुम्हाला कुणी सांगितलं की देव फक्त माणसाच्या भल्याचाच तेवढा विचार करतो? साधा कोर्टातला जज न्याय देताना पक्षपात करू शकत नाही, तर जो सनातन आहे तो केवळ मानवासाठी पक्षपात करेल असे का वाटते? मुळात तुम्ही अध्यात्म वाचलंय किती हाच प्रश्न पडतो जेव्हा तुम्ही म्हणता की कोरोनाचे संकट आले असताना कुठला देव उपयोगी पडतोय, सगळे धर्म विज्ञानाकडे आस लावून बसलेत.

एक प्रश्न, अगदी साधा, या जगात विज्ञानाची प्रगती माणसानेच का केली असावी, नाही म्हणजे गाढवांना सुद्धा थोडं विज्ञान माहीत असायला हवं होतं नाही का? माणसांचीच केवळ उत्क्रांती का झाली? सगळे प्रश्न तुम्ही स्वतःला विचारत बसा आणि सृष्टीच्या मुळाशी जाऊन थांबाल. विज्ञानाने सृष्टीचं मूळ 13.5 अब्ज वर्षांपूर्वी झाल्याचं सिद्ध केलय (The Big Bang Experiment). सृष्टीच्या जन्मापूर्वी काळही अस्तित्वात नव्हता मग त्याच्या पूर्वी असं काही आहे की नाही? हाच प्रश्न प्राचीन ऋषीमुनींना पडत राहिला आणि त्यांनी अध्यात्मिक अनुभूती घेतली, जिचं वर्णन करणं सोपं नसतं मात्र इथं गीतेच्या आणि ज्ञानेश्वरीच्या आधारे मी प्रयत्न करेन.

सृष्टीच्या मुळाशी एक सनातन ऊर्जा आहे. त्यातून सतत ब्रह्मांडांची निर्मिती होत राहते आणि ब्रह्मांडे संपुष्टात येत असतात. याच प्रकृतीचे तीन गुण आहेत. रज, तम आणि सत्व. विश्वातली प्रत्येक गोष्ट या तीनपैकी एका गुणाने नेहमी बद्ध असते आणि हे गुण आपसात बदलत राहतात. म्हणूनच साडेचार अब्ज वर्षांपूर्वी जी पृथ्वी केवळ आगीचा गोळा होती ती आज एक सुंदर ग्रह आहे आणि कदाचित उद्या पुन्हा तामसिक गुणात प्रवेश करेल तेव्हा आपण किंवा मानवता राहिलेले नसू. या प्रकृतीच्या बदलांमुळेच माकडाचा माणूस झाला, राजेशाही गेल्या आणि लोकशाही आल्या. प्रकृतीत क्षणाक्षणाला होणारे हे बदलच आयुष्याला अर्थ देतात. परमात्मा म्हणजेच ती सनातन निर्गुण निराकार शक्ती या गुणांची कर्ती आहे. आपण त्याच शक्तीचे जडत्व रूप म्हणून तुम्ही आम्ही आणि ही सृष्टी आत्ता दिसतेय. एक दिवस हे जडत्व सोडून जायचे आणि त्या अनादी अनंत शक्तिमध्ये विलीन व्हायचे हा मूळ अध्यात्मिक विचार आहे. हे करत असताना जेव्हा आपण या जडवादी म्हणजेच materialistic जगात राहत असतो तेव्हा आपसूक आपणही याच्या नियमाने वागतो. म्हणूनच भावनांच्या सागरात आयुष्य बुडून जातं. सुख दुःखाची जाणीव होते. आस्तिक असण्याचा अर्थ असतो की या सर्व भावनांच्या पलीकडे जाऊन त्या सनातन शक्तीला शरण जाण्याची भावना ठेवणे म्हणजे देवाला मानणे. मुळी तुमच्या मानण्या न माणण्यामुळे सनातन सत्य बदलणार नाहीये. नास्तिकांना केवळ इतकी जाणीव व्हावी की कधी गर्व तर कधी व्यापक विचार न करण्याची क्षमता यामुळे तुम्ही आज जरी नास्तिक असाल तरीही एक दिवस तुम्हाला नक्की समजेल. कारण कुणाच्या सांगण्याने तुमच्यावर प्रभाव होत नाही आणि उपरोक्त आध्यात्मिक अनुभूती साठी हे सर्वात जास्त गरजेचे आहे.

मग आस्तिकांनी दगडाची पूजा केली किंवा नमाज पढल्याने संकटं दूर होतात का? तर प्रार्थनेचा मूळ उद्देश हा संकटांमध्ये शक्ती आणि धैर्याचे अनुसरण करणे हा असतो. दुर्दैवाने जगातील जवळपास सर्वच धार्मिक प्रार्थना इतक्या भोळ्या भावाने होत नाहीत आणि कर्मयोगाच्या सिद्धांताप्रमाणे त्या फळाला येणे शक्यही नाही. “दे रे हरी खाटल्यावरी” असं होत नाही. गीतेचा तिसरा अध्याय कर्मयोग हेच सांगतो की कर्म करणे आपल्या हातात आहे. कर्म केलेच नाही तर फळ कसे मिळणार? कोरोनाच्या संकटावर काय असेल कर्म? तर काळजी घेणे आणि औषध शोधणे. निश्चित फळ मिळेल जर प्रयत्न सुरू असतील तर. दुसरं म्हणजे देव आहे तर मग माणसांवर संकटं का आणतोय? भोळ्यानो तो केवळ माणसाचा नाही, या सृष्टीचा कर्ता आहे. हा कोरोना व्हायरस सुद्धा एक जीवच आणि तो ही त्याचाच. तो व्हायरस त्याचं आयुष्य जगतोय जसे आपण. आपण आपलं आयुष्य जगत असताना वनस्पती आणि प्राण्यांना मारतो, खातो तसाच तो आपल्या शरीरातील पेशी खातोय. ज्ञानेश्वरीच्या बाराव्या अध्यायात एक ओवी आहे

“पार्था जयाचे ठायी, वैषम्याची परी नाही;

रिपुमित्रा दोन्ही, सरीसा पाडू!”

याचा अर्थ असा की देवाकडे वैषम्य म्हणजेच पक्षपात नाहीये. शत्रू, मित्र, उच्च, नीच, प्राणी, माणूस ग्रह-तारे सर्वजण त्याच्यासाठी समान. त्यात व्हायरस ची मानवाला लागण होणे हे मानवाच्या स्वार्थास हानिकारक आहे परंतु तो तर अनादी अनंत. त्याने प्रत्येकाला प्रत्येकाच्या वाटचे लढण्याचे गुण दिलेले आहेत. वाघाकडे हिंस्रपणा असेल तर मानवाकडे बुद्धी आहे. त्याच जोरावर तो आज विज्ञान जाणू शकलाय आणि त्याच विज्ञानाच्या जोरावर या संकटावर मात करणं अपेक्षित आहे. अंधश्रद्धा बाळगणं जसं चूक, तसंच माहीत नसताना शेखी मिरवणं सुद्धा चूकच.

देव आहे की नाही याचे उत्तर अध्यात्मात आहे. स्वतः अध्यात्मिक असल्यामुळे माझं मत म्हणणार नाही पण अनुभूती सांगायचा प्रयत्न केला. माणसाच्या जन्माला आल्यावर कर्मयोगी राहणं आणि कर्माने बद्ध न होणं हेच देवत्वाचं मूळ आहे मात्र अनेक भोळ्या भक्तांनी देवाचं अस्तित्व स्वार्थपुरतं केलं ज्याचा शतकानुशतके धर्मगुरूंनी फायदा उचलून अंधश्रद्धा वाढवल्या आणि देवाला भिणाऱ्या समाजाला निर्माण केलं आणि म्हणून तेवढ्या अंधश्रद्धाळू धार्मिक संकल्पना पटल्या नाहीत म्हणून तुम्ही लोक नास्तिक झालात. अध्यात्म तुमच्या अगदी जवळ आहे, उघड्या डोळ्यांनी बघा आणि जमलं तर अनुभवा!

सर्वांना सादर नमस्कार आणि प्रजासत्ताक दिनाच्या हार्दिक शुभेच्छा….

७२ वर्षे झाली स्वतंत्र होऊन आणि आपलं लोकशाहीचं प्रजासत्ताक स्थापन होऊन 69 वर्षे…. काय केलं आपण इतक्या वर्षात…? आज महासत्ता बनण्याचे स्वप्न प्रत्यक्ष साकारण्याच्या मार्गात आहोत ना, ते याच काळातील अखंड परिश्रम आणि प्रचंड देशभक्तीच्या सामर्थ्यानेच…!

आजच्याच दिवशी भारताला आधिकारीक स्वरूपात संविधान लागू झाले. तेच हे संविधान ज्यात तुमच्या माझ्या स्वातंत्र्याला अनेक अधिकार आणि कायद्यांसह लिखित स्वरूपात उपलब्धता आहे. अनेकांना वाटतं भारताचा इतिहास केवळ सत्तर वर्षांचा आहे. सिंधू पासून वैदिक संस्कृतींपर्यंत, मौर्यांपासून ते मराठ्यांपर्यन्त सर्व साम्राज्यांचा, कन्याकुमारी पासून ते काश्मीर पर्यंत आसेतुसिंधु भारतवर्षाचा गौरवशाली इतिहास आहे हा. हा इतिहासच सर्वात मोठी ग्वाही आहे भारताच्या महासत्ता बनण्याच्या वास्तवाची!

प्राचीन इतिहासातील अनेक शतके भारत जगातील सर्वाधिक आर्थिक आणि सांस्कृतिक दृष्ट्या प्रगत असा देश होता. ही संपदा कुना दुसऱ्या देशाला लुटून कमावलेली नव्हती, निसर्गाने या भूमीला दिलेलं वरदान आणि आपल्या लोकांची मेहनत एवढंच काय ते त्या मागचं रहस्य. सुमारे हजार वर्षे मुघल, अरब, इंग्रज, फ्रेंच, पोर्तुगीज सर्वांनी भारताला लुटलं. खास आभार इंग्रजांचे… 200 वर्षांपेक्षा जास्त काळ लावला तुम्ही भारताला भिकेला लावायला. इथल्या वैभवाची राख सोडून गेलात तुम्ही ७० वर्षांपूर्वी नाही का…? आज तुमच्या अर्थव्यवस्थेला झटक्यात मागं टाकायला सज्ज आहोत आम्ही… आता कसं वाटतंय…?

जगाच्या इतिहासात अनेक देश दुसऱ्यांवर आक्रमण करून महासत्ता बनले, नंतर आपसात लढले आणि मातीत मिळाले. दोन्ही महायुद्धं चांगली उदाहरणं आहेत याला.आजच्या घडीला अमेरिका आहे त्या जागी… चीन उंबरठ्यावर आणि भारत त्याच वाटेवर….पण भारताचं महासत्ता बनणं हे कुणावर आक्रमण करून किंवा लुटून नाहीये…ना भारत महासत्ता बनल्यावर सत्तेचा गैरवापर करेल. भारत नेहमीच दुसऱ्यांना सोबत घेऊन सर्वांचं हित जपणारा देश आहे…!!

शंका असेल ना की करोडो लोक गरिबीच्या विळख्यात असताना महासत्ता बनण्याच्या काय गप्पा लावल्यात म्हणून…? काय असावं लागतं महासत्ता बनायला…? भारताकडे जगातली चौथी सर्वात मोठी सेनेची फौज आहे. भारत जगातील सहावी सर्वात मोठी अर्थव्यवस्था आहे. भारताच्या अर्थव्यवस्थेच्या वाढीचा दर जगात सर्वाधिक आहे. सध्या तो 7.5% च्या पार आहे पण 2019 संपेपावेतो 8 टक्क्यांच्या जादुई आकडा पार होईल. भारताची गरिबीरेषेखालील लोकसंख्या झपाट्याने वर येत आहे. 2012 मध्ये 22% भारतीय दारिद्र्यरेषेखाली होते, जे की आज केवळ 12% आहेत. भारतातील उद्योग क्षेत्रातील झपाट्याने होत असलेली वाढ लवकरच भारतात मोठ्या प्रमाणावर रोजगार आणेल यात शंका नाही. केवळ एवढं चालू राहिलं तरी यावर्षी इंग्लंड ला, 2022 पर्यंत जर्मनी ला, 2030 पर्यंत जपान ला आणि 2045 पर्यंत अमेरिकेला मागे टाकून आपण जगातील दुसरी सर्वात मोठी अर्थव्यवस्था बनणार….!!!

भारतातील लोकसंख्येचा स्फोट एक समस्या आहे मात्र मात्र लोकसंख्येचा वाढीचा दर प्रमाणात आहे आणि तो कमी होतोय. अंदाज आहेत की 2050 नंतर भारताची लोकसंख्या कमी व्हायला लागेल…! सध्याला भारताची 65% लोकसंख्या युवा आहे… जगातील सर्वात तरुण देश… म्हणजेच जोश आणि उमेदीला कमी नाही, केवळ ती आपण देशाच्या विकासाच्या दिशेने नेली तर आपणच देशाला महासत्ता बनवू….!!

आपली अर्थव्यवस्था अर्ध्याहून अधिक सेवा क्षेत्रावर अवलंबून आहे. मात्र गेल्या दहा वर्षांमध्ये आपण उद्योगात लक्षणीय वाढ केली आहे. ही वाढ सुरू राहिली तर बेरोजगारी मोठ्या प्रमाणावर कमी होईल. कृषी क्षेत्रात आपण आज जरी कृषी उत्पादन निर्यातीत आघाडीवर असलो, तरी चीन आणि रशियाचा आदर्श ठेवून आपण वेळीच कृषी क्षेत्रात मोठे सुधार केले पाहिजेत. त्याने भारताच्या अर्थव्यवस्थेचे तीनही स्तंभ मजबूत होतील आणि बेसुमार गती मिळेल.

इन्फ्रास्ट्रक्चर मध्ये आपण ज्या तेजीने झेपावत आहोत, लवकरच भारतातील रस्ते-महामार्गांचा आमूलाग्र कायापालट होणार हे नक्की! रेल्वेमध्ये सुद्धा अपेक्षित नसली तरी लक्षणीय प्रगती होतेच आहे. अनेक इंडस्ट्रीयल कॉरिडॉर बांधले जात आहेत. एकंदरच चित्र झपाट्याने बदलत आहे.

लक्षणीय प्रगती म्हणावी तर ती आयटी क्षेत्रामध्ये. भारत जगातील सर्वात मोठा सॉफ्टवेअर निर्यातदार देश आहे. जगातील सर्वाधिक सॉफ्टवेअर इंजिनिअर पण आपल्याकडेच. खाली दिलेले गुरुग्राम व पुण्याच्या आयटी पार्क्सचे फोटो पाहता ही गोष्ट कळेलच…!

जागतिक राजकारणात अनेक विकसनशील देश भारताच्या साथीला आहेत. शिवाय रशिया आणि अमेरिका दोन्हीसोबत आपले सम्बन्ध चांगले होणं ही अतिशय मोलाची बाब आहे.

महासत्ता असणं म्हणजे केवळ बेसुमार पैसा आणि तगडी फौज नव्हे, तर सांस्कृतिक वारशाची श्रीमंती सुद्धा….! त्या हिशोबाने आपण आत्ताच महासत्ता आहोत.

वैदिक गणित-विज्ञान, आयुर्वेद, योग, अन्नपदार्थांची रेलचेल, ऐतिहासिक इमारती व मंदिरे… कशा कशाची कमी नाही. संस्कृत, मराठी, तामिळ, तेलगू, उर्दू, हिंदी व इतर अनेक भाषांमधली अजरामर साहित्यसंपदा इथपासून ते हॉलिवूड ला टक्कर देणारी तेलगू, तामिळ, मल्याळम, हिंदी, मराठी आणि बंगाली चित्रपटसृष्टी पर्यंत सगळ्या बाबतीत आपण चमकत आहोत आणि राहू…!

इतकी प्रचंड विविधता असतानासुद्धा देश म्हणून एकत्र राहणं कमालीचं अवघड आहे,मात्र आपल्यातील ‘आसेतुसिंधु’ हा रक्तातला गुण आहे. त्यामुळे आज युरोपियन युनियन आपसी मतभेदांच्या कचाट्यात सापडून विखुरण्याच्या मार्गावर असताना भारतीयांमधील एकात्मता वरचेवर बळकट होत आहे…!!

Directly coming to the point, do you remember how hard we wanted to slap and kill Roose Bolton when he stabbed Robb Stark…? I know we all remember him very well for that. House Bolton of Dreadfort was one of the most hated and savage houses in the North. As their sigil suggests, they believed to kill their enemies by skinning them alive and burning their bodies while hanging them upside down on the X cross.

For Centuries before Starks were risen, Boltons once used to terrify the whole north by their dirty games and brutally killing people. The Starks defeated the Boltons and won the hearts and respect of all the Northerners. The Northerners then promoted Starks as “King in the North” until Aegon the conqueror took over the North. Boltons then started to be allies of the Starks.

When war of the five Kings started after Ned Stark’s death, Roose Bolton, as a Bannerman of Starks stood for fighting alongside with Robb.

But he was no fool, neither trustworthy, and here begins the visions, aspirations and acts of Roose Bolton.

1) Tyrion Lannister’s masterstroke for Jaime’s custody was successful as Petyr Baelish aka Littlefinger somehow convinced Catelyn Stark to release Jaime in return of Arya and Sansa’s custody. This emotional blackmail was enough for Catelyn to make a blunder and thus, Karstarks stood against the decision of Catelyn for release of Jaime. This was a strong signal for Roose Bolton that Robb is going to lose this war and Roose played a brilliant game. Bolton’s men captured the ‘on the way Jaime’ and tortured him by cutting his hand. In exchange of Jaime’s safe return, Roose, along with Walder Frey, plotted with Tywin Lannister, very secretly, to Kill the stark family. This was eventually going to make Roose Bolton the Lord of Winterfell and it did happen. He killed Robb in the red wedding. In return,he became Warden of the North. The Winterfell was anyway occupied by his bastard son Ramsay. In war, we have anger, fury, excitement etc. But Roose was an excellent cold blooded murderer.

2) Yet, this wasn’t all. He wanted Sansa Stark for his son Ramsay, but she was already married to Tyrion as per the brilliant game by Tywin. The plot of Joffrey’s murder was quite shared by Roose, as Littlefinger could successfully evacuate Sansa from the Capital in all those minutes of mess. She was then brought to Winterfell by Littlefinger. Sansa was the Key to hold the North and Roose’s position was always insecure when she was with the Lannisters. Roose stole her in the presence of Tywin himself, this would require guts. The only man who could outperform Tywin in politics, was Roose….!!

3) Ramsay’s nature wasn’t really kind for Roose as he pretended. That was known to him as well. Thus, Roose impregnated his another wife to plot a game of legacy. His plan was to control over the acts of Ramsay as he was literally taking over father’s legacy, by making him insecure about his legacy. The best way was to bring him a brother.

4) In one moment, Roose literally scolds Ramsay by saying that Ramsay could only torture the men but Roose was standing off against the Lannister army by stealing Sansa. In short he meant to say, he had bigger balls than Ramsay can’t even think.

Robb’s death fas a bad fate. The way Roose stabbed him in belly, was his Karma going to repeat for him as well. When Roose’s new wife Lady Walda gave birth to son, just after his conversation to Ramsay about the uncertainty of Ramsay’s legacy as Sansa fleed, Ramsay stabbed him the same way.

Brutal Ramsay was truly his father’s son…! The only weakness of Roose was his nature of betrayal and brutality being inherited into Ramsay. That got him killed. Roose still remains to be one of the best political gamers of Westorous….!!

While watching the first 2 seasons of GoT, did we ever think someone even more brutal af will be there, other than Joffrey..? But then he came in season 3. For almost a season, we didn’t even know his name. All we could guess, that he was the bastard son of Roose Bolton. Though, he was playing hard. His brutality was making us happy till some point. He literally broke Theon Greyjoy from inside. For the first few episodes of his torture to Theon, we were like “C’mon dude, hurt the traitor more”… Soon as he “cut” him, we were scared the shit out of us.

Ramsay Roose Bolton, a bastard son of betrayer Roose. He was much more than just being a brutal killer and a torturer. He was a splendid manipulator of people. He did not care anyone but himself. Let us know how brilliant was his politics.

When given a chance to take over Winterfell from Theon, indirectly by Robb Stark, he could have done it simply by killing Theon, but his plans were different. He made Theon weak. He broke him from inside so that the invasion by his people, the iron islanders can be broken by torturing him. The success of breaking Theon’s self is evident when his sister Yara comes to save him, he refuses to go. Theon’s subconscious is upheld by Ramsay when he names him ‘Reek’ and makes to act as he says. While Ramsay had a task of occupying Moat Cailin, the southern edge of the North, occupied by iron islanders, Theon is brilliantly used to manipulate them. Thus, we can say Ramsay had a vision as he did not kill Theon but manipulated him.

His visionary aspect is more evident when in the 2nd episode of season 4, he recognises Jon Snow as a threat to Boltons’ claim on Winterfell. His estimate was actually true, because as we know, Jon Snow overthrew him from Winterfell by defeating him in the Battle of Bastards.

His aspect on recognising Jon as a threat had a plan. He wanted to attack the Night’s Watch. Roose Bolton questioned him in this regard if he wanted to raise every house in the North against them, by attacking the Night’s Watch. Too much pride is a poison. Thus, poor Sansa, another victim of Ramsay’s brutality turned out to be a devil for him. The defeat of Ramsay was more of his own mistake rather than Jon’s bravery. We celebrated his death but he remained to be the most hated character and the most admired villain in the history of the Novel series and the TV series.

Hello Westorousi People….

There are two kinds of people in the world…those who hate Joffrey and those who don’t watch GoT. As all of us know that Joffrey was never really a Baratheon but a Lannister, this was known to him as well. Although, he loved his father. This statement has very less evidences in support but he did love Robert Baratheon as a father…at least for his own sake of being a Crown Prince and a would be King. When Ned Stark plotted against him, his mother was smart enough to defend Joffrey and seize Ned, but Joffrey wasn’t smart as he beheaded Ned and invited many wars at doorstep. Even in Season 2 Episode 6, Tyrion, his uncle and Hand of the King, slapped him saying “A Vicious Idiot King.” For all we are impressed, is Joffrey was a cruel, selfish but idiot King.

But very few have gone through the aspect of Joffery which I’m going to tell. He had a vision for his own reign. He had it as a King should have. Let me give you an example, in Season 1 Episode 3, when he used to be Crown Prince, he suggests Cersei, his Mother and the Queen, that an army trained by soldiers should be appointed to the Crown. He was of opinion that the Northerners have been given too much power. Someone loyal to the Crown should be given the charge of the North as Warden of the North. Did you notice what Tywin Lannister, his grandfather and subsequent Hand of the King did in Season 3 to end the Northern rebellion…? He plotted with Roose Bolton to Kill the Stark family in return of making Roose Warden of the North. Joffrey suggested this in Season 1….!!

If you ever notice Tommen, his younger brother, when became of the same age as was Joffrey in Season 1 and 2, all he wanted to do was to have his Queen Margaery in his bed. He was mad in love with her. Joffrey, on the other hand, enjoyed torturing and humiliating people. He was romantic with Margaery at times but was never mad for her. He had a vision for his own reign. He wanted to rule cruelly. He wanted to have everyone to his feet. Alas, there was Sansa who can expose him to Lady Olenna, he couldn’t.

In Season 2 Episode 1, Joffrey rudely asks Cersei if Robert has any children from prostitutes. In the same discussion, we came to know that Joffrey was aware of his real biological father. He has a plan for strengthening his claim to the throne. Oh wait, in the scene, he says “It’s not claim, the throne is mine.” He then orders to kill all the bastard sons of Robert Baratheon. Had Cersei even thought this…? Joffrey had a vision for his reign.

But he remained an idiot though, thus got killed. His death was celebrated amongst fans. His brutality as a villain stayed with us.

Next villain will be Ramsay Bolton….!!
